Is there a war on Christianity in America's Left?

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
I agree...….
Which would be fine, of course... except that Americans tend to expect other nations and people to be empathetic to them while forgetting and forgiving American excesses. I'm still fairly confident that the average American is baffled and outraged that anyone bears them any ill will over their role in the current state of the Middle East, for example. I'm also fairly confident that unless he saw it mentioned in the news media within the last 24 hours, the average American couldn't name the countries America has active combat operations at present. If anyone tried to explain to our Usual Suspects that there is ill will toward America because of, for example, American involvement in Yemen, I'd put money on it that the US's response would basically boil down to 'you're still complaining about that?'

Oh, out of interest: Trump vetoes bill to end US involvement in Yemen war

Read this article, and find that in a discussion of the horrendous attacks on Christian Churches in Sri Lanka, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama cannot bring themselves to use the word "Christian." Instead they use the sanitized euphemism "Easter worshippers." Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton tip anti-Christian ‘Easter worshippers’ hats

Why? Has being a Christian become too much of an embarrassment for Democrats these days? And is this just a part of the larger picture of the Left disenfranchising Christianity? It often appears these days that you can be Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, Wiccan, and even a Satanist (and ESPECIALLY a Muslim) and the ACLU will protect your rights. But if you are a Christian, aren't you seen as the purveyor of prejudice?

I used to think it was we Jews who had it bad. I remember when I lived in North Hollywood, CA and two Jewish men were shot going into morning prayers at their shul -- not a single newspaper or TV media outlet covered the event. And that was typical back then for our neighborhood. Jews were seen as part of the "rich white oppressor" by the Left.

Now the hatred is spreading, and Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, first by Islam, and second by the Left. And I'm sorry to say, but the bigotry extends even to my own country.

It is the true church which continues to be the target of persecution, just as it was prophesied in scripture. God's people are hated by the world and "Rome" is alive and thriving.

First of all, I am not a Christian. I have no dog in the race. I am a Jew. If anything, you would think I would have a bias against the Christian church given our history.

There are two forces marginalizing Christianity. The main force is Islam.

Now Muslims in my own country are just fine. They've grown up here, and have assimilated American values like freedom of religion. They are horrified when people of other religions are persecuted.

That is not what things are like in Muslim countries around the world. In fact, just today I was reading that Christians in Egypt are going through yet another round of heavy persecution. When I say persecution by Muslims, I mean destruction of churches. I mean the execution of those who convert to Christianity. I mean false charges against Christians for so called blasphemy against Muhammad. In these countries, a Christian can die for being a Christian. The terrorists in Sri Lanka targeted Christian Churches in particular, you know.

The second source of religious persecution is coming from the secular left, especially anti-Theists. Using revisionist history, they seek to marginalize Christianity and remove it from public existence. IOW, they would like to emasculate it, so that it cannot function in a way that effects civic and cultural life. They do this primarily by trying to shame it, presenting only one side of its history, and removing from history all of the good that it has accomplished, and the fact that it has been central to our culture and therefore even to the secular government that sprung from our culture.

They have passed laws that have consistently placed rights NOT embedded in the constitution over the right to freedom of religion, which IS expressly protected by the constitution. A business literally had to take it all the way to the Supreme Court that given their religious beliefs, they should not be forced to provide a gay wedding cake. It is absurd that this kind of religious discrimination goes on.
The left are doing what they are being manipulated to do, as are the Muslims. Ever read Albert Pike? Look into it if you haven't.

There are many liberal Christian churches who support their conservative Christian counterparts.I know this because a person at the United Methodist church recommended me read the rebel Christ. I saw the video, although he does speak on Christians needing to be accepting of Gays and lesbians: he also said he and his United Methodist church welcome conservatives and that they are all the same part of the same religion all one denomination.

So im sitting here scratching my head as to why youd think liberal Christians would be attacking conservatives.

Or... just maybe... he was calling attention to the fact that the attack was especially heinous because it was on one of Christianity's most sacred days of worship?

Seriously... the Religious Right's reaction to this tweet just comes across as a desperate, irrational attempt to take any opportunity they can to demonize Obama.

I'm sure that if he had tweeted "Christian worshippers," the exact same people would be up in arms about him not mentioning that it was an Easter service ("it's the holiest day in Christianity! He's making it sound like just any regular Sunday! He's so insensitive to Christians... despite the fact that he is one.")

Many, it seems, need to learn what the ACLU actually does because they've defended TONS of Christians.
In some parts of the world, yes, but in the West, other than a handful of isolated and minor incidents, the op is rubbish.

It's especially bizarre that it's all in the context of an actual attack on Christians: the one in Sri Lanka.

I can't even relate to the mindset of some comfortable American Christian who hears about more than 200 Christians being killed in an attack, sees tweets of sympathy from a couple of politicians - both Christians themselves - decides they don't like the fact that these politicians used the name of the Christian holiday the attack happened on instead of the word "Christian," and says to themselves, "well, I think I'm the real victim here."

Are there really people this desperate to be martyrs (without actually being martyrs) that they'd set aside not only reason but also compassion for their fellow Christians to do this?

Perhaps Iran should just be allowed to control Socotra and the Bab al Mandab.

Yemen is strictly defensive on the part of KSA.

Americans don't care about foreign Christians.. They have to be white Christians. They never cared about Palestinian Christians or Iraqi Christians.. currently they don't care about Iranian Christians.

Why would they suddenly care about brown Christians in Sri Lanka?

I try not to jump to the conclusion of racism. I think it's just as plausible to explain their behaviour as an attempt to score political points, or based in some idea that they aren't martyrs themselves, then they aren't "real" Christians.

That being said, I do have to wonder why they wouldn't have gone with "more than 250 Christians were just murdered for their faith - Christianity is under attack" instead of "Christian politicians expressing sympathy for murdered Christians didn't refer to Christianity explicitly enough - Christianity is under attack."

The two possibilities I see for the people complaining about Obama and Clinton - neither of them flattering:

- they don't identify or emphasize with the Sri Lankan Christian victims, or

- the actual attack isn't useful to them because it can't be used for their own political advantage.

I think it more likely that in our Christian dominated society (and planet really) they want to avoid offending different sects within Christianity by recognizing the form of Christianity practiced in Sri Lanka as such. To that end they came up with a more sanitized statement.

We can see how sensitive such topics can be here on RF.

Easter worship means they are Christians without saying they were Catholic or Baptist or Luthern etc..

In that part of the world I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of non-Christians also participated in Easter worship.

This is complete nonsense.
Of course Easter worshippers are Christians.
But it wasn't only because they were Christians. They weren't out at a market, or going to a wedding. The targets were Easter worshippers! They were at church, celebrating the highest Holy Day.

And they got blown up. Because that's when the terrorists knew that they could maximize damage and death. So, of course, the victims were referred to as Easter worshippers because that's what they were.
