Is there a war on Christianity in America's Left?

Read this article, and find that in a discussion of the horrendous attacks on Christian Churches in Sri Lanka, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama cannot bring themselves to use the word "Christian." Instead they use the sanitized euphemism "Easter worshippers." Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton tip anti-Christian ‘Easter worshippers’ hats

Why? Has being a Christian become too much of an embarrassment for Democrats these days? And is this just a part of the larger picture of the Left disenfranchising Christianity? It often appears these days that you can be Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, Wiccan, and even a Satanist (and ESPECIALLY a Muslim) and the ACLU will protect your rights. But if you are a Christian, aren't you seen as the purveyor of prejudice?

I used to think it was we Jews who had it bad. I remember when I lived in North Hollywood, CA and two Jewish men were shot going into morning prayers at their shul -- not a single newspaper or TV media outlet covered the event. And that was typical back then for our neighborhood. Jews were seen as part of the "rich white oppressor" by the Left.

Now the hatred is spreading, and Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, first by Islam, and second by the Left. And I'm sorry to say, but the bigotry extends even to my own country.

That seems a stretch. It also seems something that Christians commonly want to believe.
First of all, I am not a Christian. I have no dog in the race. I am a Jew. If anything, you would think I would have a bias against the Christian church given our history.

There are two forces marginalizing Christianity. The main force is Islam.

Now Muslims in my own country are just fine. They've grown up here, and have assimilated American values like freedom of religion. They are horrified when people of other religions are persecuted.

That is not what things are like in Muslim countries around the world. In fact, just today I was reading that Christians in Egypt are going through yet another round of heavy persecution. When I say persecution by Muslims, I mean destruction of churches. I mean the execution of those who convert to Christianity. I mean false charges against Christians for so called blasphemy against Muhammad. In these countries, a Christian can die for being a Christian. The terrorists in Sri Lanka targeted Christian Churches in particular, you know.

The second source of religious persecution is coming from the secular left, especially anti-Theists. Using revisionist history, they seek to marginalize Christianity and remove it from public existence. IOW, they would like to emasculate it, so that it cannot function in a way that effects civic and cultural life. They do this primarily by trying to shame it, presenting only one side of its history, and removing from history all of the good that it has accomplished, and the fact that it has been central to our culture and therefore even to the secular government that sprung from our culture.

They have passed laws that have consistently placed rights NOT embedded in the constitution over the right to freedom of religion, which IS expressly protected by the constitution. A business literally had to take it all the way to the Supreme Court that given their religious beliefs, they should not be forced to provide a gay wedding cake. It is absurd that this kind of religious discrimination goes on.

Although many times what Christians call "persecution" may not be... overall, I would have to agree with you. In so many places of the world being a Christian can cost you your life or your ability to succeed.

Agreed with your comment of ACLU and it would appear that the left, in its leadership, is heading towards that line of thinking. However, many of that rank and file are Christians.

I'm a catholic moderate and I have a war with the church and most christian religions yet I believe I am practicing christianity fine.

The abuse of people in the name of Christ is wrong, whether is be Kids, Woman, For Sexuality, or Ethnicity and to many christian religions have participated in this.

The ignoring of sins do to the fact the person has power or money supporting them in the name of Christ is wrong. See Trump the latest of the group or the list of others before him. Morality is not linked to fame or wealth.

Trading one sin for another in the Name of Christ is wrong, yet in Today's world enforcing some sin's is OK using other lesser sin's. See Abortion.

Using government as the enforcer of policies when Christ gave many examples of staying out of government.

Christianity has brought this on themselves ignoring Chirst own words to Shake the sand from you sandals from the land of those that wont listen. Also do not use violence against others and not just one form of violence. He also made it a policy to not be involved in Government. Christianity is doomed to failure, if they continue to not Follow the words and examples of Christ.

The faux outrage over calling Easter worshippers "Easter worshippers" seems ridiculously contrived to me.

From http://www.gordonconwell.edu/resources/documents/TheDemographicsofChristianMartyrdom.pdf

"David B. Barrett (1927-2011) David Barrett pioneered the quantitative study of martyrdom. He died last year at age 83. Barrett told me the story of when he was invited to speak to a group of wealthy industrialists. They asked him what the most effective means of evangelism was so that they could invest their money to hurry up the evangelization of the world. He responded, “We have been engaged in in-depth research on this subject, and we think the most effective means might be Christian martyrdom.” There was an awkward silence until one industrialist screwed up the courage and asked, “Dr. Barrett, could you tell us the second most effective means of evangelism?”

Christians in Egypt cannot get a divorce so they convert to Islam, divorce and return to Christianity.

You say 'redress' (revenge) and someone else says 'war.'

Same/same.
Yes 'Redress' not 'revenge'; nothing to do with war at all. It is about evening out Christian privileges, so that non-Christians have the same benefits..

Just to simplify:

1) Many of the groups the left courts are very much anti-Semitic or anti-Christian. Black Israelites/AKA Black Lives Matter, CAIR, etc. Though they are not simply that, but often anti-LGBT and anti-science in many cases as well.

2) The Democrats are trying to be a religion. Other religions are a competition, unless it's Islam. Someone has to be "The Devil" -- for them, it's the rich white Jew and his brothers in Christianity. (Might as well be the same thing.) With Islam, it seems that they found another "oppressed minority" in the USA to exploit, so that's what they've been working on. Islam is really just their new version of the black man to exploit, don't worry they'll dick them too. :D

3) The left is infesting the media, but they're into religions like Scientology, Kabbalah, and weird crap like NXIVM. Stuff along those lines... Of course, they never talk about that stuff on the air so you'd like never know. A good portion of them are atheists, but a lot are into these goofy cults. They do a lot to keep the names of them off the air/media so don't expect to hear much about them unless they get raided by the police.

4) The ACLU is infested with liberals, but sometimes it gets it right. It's better than nothing, but not much. :D They don't like Christians because most of them are atheists, plain and simple. Though, some do their job anyway -- it's a very large group with all sorts of lawyers participating. Good and bad.

5) The Pope has been doing everything he can to get back into good graces with liberals, including helping them import thousands of illegals into the USA. I'm not down with that, so screw the RCC as well as far as I'm concerned. Even in doing that, they'll still hate him.

I do feel for the innocent Christians just doing their thing and not causing trouble, unfortunately when the bullets go flying it's often the bystander that gets hit. As member of those churches, I'd be extremely careful about researching the activities these organizations are involved in. You'd be surprised what you find...

In the end, if a lot of the points I mentioned seem to display cognitive dissonance you'd not be the only one to notice. Welcome to the club! :D

As far as ACLU defending Satanists and Wiccans or whatever, yeah, the defense is too late -- it's still not really safe to declare yourself openly a Satanist. I probably know something about that. =) Sure, we have religious freedom but nothing stops your Christian zealot neighbor from burning down your house while you're sleeping other than completely being in the dark. It's either that, or everyone thinks you're insane -- that's great for your life opportunities as well. Yeah, the only place I've ever experienced religious freedom is behind the doors of my home. It doesn't matter what your beliefs and practices are to people who have already been prejudiced to them. It just takes one psycho to hurt you permanently or destroy your life in some other way. It's just not worth it. You folks in mainstream religions have it easy man, trust me.

You know how it goes. Some people can't distinguish between loss of a privileged position and actual persecution... largely because they've never experienced anything remotely like persecution in their lives.

What I like to call "armchair" persecution.
I theorise that since the Bible speaks about how the true believers will find themselves being persecuted, and that such persecution is a sign you're on the right path, it pulls at the conscience of many overweight, under exercised middle class westerners that their lives are somewhat lacking in persecution, and so to cover this seeming gap in their spiritual lives, they'll desperately take anything remotely misconstruable as persecution and wrap it around themselves like a big reassuring blanket.

..."unfounded internet rumour that one of the Columbine murderers asked someone if they were a Christian before he killed her? HE WAS PERSECUTING CHRISTIANS! Thank goodness, Christians are being persecuted, I am a Christian, therefore I am being persecuted, QED. I'm so glad I can sleep soundly in my warm queen size bed after eating twice my daily recommended caloric requirement and not feel guilty about the world's poor or starving. What with me being PERSECUTED and all, I must be on the right track. I can't wait for the "war on Christmas" to start up to make me feel even more persecuted and thereby justify my blatant crass consumerism!"

The whole idea of a war on Christianity in Ameristan is really odd.
Christians dominate both parties, including Democrats. A war on
themselves? Nah. It's a war between Christians...new agie ones
vs old school fire & brimstone types.
I'm glad to be a conscientious objector disbeliever in that war.

Well, how would you undo the invasion of Iraq or the slaughter of Deir Yasin?
Um, only Americans are allowed to hold people account for massacres and attacks. Other people are meant to just get over it.

Hey, I like America and Americans generally, but they are amazingly myopic when it comes to international empathy. Whether by design or not, we could argue for ages, but the American popular consciousness is so hugely parochial, many (most?) still think of 9/11 as a recent, relevant and pressing event, while at the same time being largely unaware of, for example, the civilian casualty rates due to the Coalition invasion of Iraq.
