What does being spiritual not religious mean to you?

One of the best statements of spiritual was made by Hazrat Inayat Khan about Sufism but to me is applicable to any spiritual belief:

Tassawuf is not a sect (and what it represents is the embodiment of the heart of all Islamic doctrine as it is), it's just a word that should never have been invented. Mysticism exists in many forms (aka: Dear Hazrat, make up your own name), he should have called his movement "Hazratayya" or something similar instead of capitalizing on a word (Sufism) which was catching the eye of Orientalists. I like some of his work but he was a twat for doing that.

To call it prejudice, we would need a form of certainty that I don't think can be reasonably had.

Actually I consider prejudice a polite term. I believe it can be determined by a reasonable certainty in many cases such as in the Jehovah Witnesses who have an inherent prejudice and fear of being evil against other churches and religions, and they will not even enter other houses of worship. They will not consider their places of worship as churches, nor consider themselves even Christianity. There are other cases I can describe such as this.

That is a worthy exercise to consider. How objective can we aim to be in such judgements, and what should the consequences be regarding our dealings with the various creeds?

It seems to me that it will eventually come down to a decisive matter of how prepared to deal with its own fallibility those creeds are. Arrogance "for God" is quite the venom.

I think if one is a Theist and knows that for certain, I can overcome all prejudices and live one's life contentedly keeping oneself to oneself. That is what God desires of me.

I've been asked so many times what is my religion? and when I say that I am not religious ,I am spiritual don't really get what I really mean.I explain to them that there is a difference because religion is limited in there practice of spirituality.I use different ways of seeking spirituality!! ways that most religions say are wicked or of the devil.I get messages from the spiritual realm by reading tarot cards, I get messages from the spiritual realm from using the pendulum and I practice chants, mantras, incantations, energy spells, horoscope and astrology,numerology,feng-shui ,crystals ,meditate, visualize into manifestation and some more.I feel that aligning my self with spirit is seeking a your higher self and understanding my purpose in this life and fulfilling that. I believe being in tune with the spiritual realm assists me in how to accomplish my desires in different things. understanding the powers and gifts I have that God has given me though the spirit , to enhance and enlighten my path as well as others, that is just a small portion of what I truly feel it means to be spiritual. Main stream religion doesn't go that deep in their spirituality quest or even understand it. I am curious as to how others feel about this.:firstqmoon:

You appear to have a practice which puts you in contact with your intuition and/or your unconscious. This to me is a valid approach to the spiritual that does not participate in a relgion.

I don't call myself religious because most religions claim that "they are the only ones having it right"
I do not believe "there is only 1 path" but I believe I am a spiritual being, hence I call myself spiritual
