... "The Face of God" as rendered by Michelangelo upon the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

Our Creator definitely looks Italian.

The treasures of the Roman Catholic Church are most artful, larger than life and majestic. Looking up at the heavenly and lofty vaulted ceilings of Catholic cathedrals and grand churches takes my breath away with awe and gives me vertigo.

Most Protestant churches look comparatively plain and humble.

you cannot picture the father of the trinity. the father never showed his face. we can only picture the son (Jesus walked the earth) and the saints.

He has a face? Does it look like ours, you know, like the face of a hairless primate? Or does He look more alien and spiritual? Like a spiritual E.T. Or something?

What are your thoughts? And whtly does it not show it?

The paintings and statues of people was done because we can better relate to people than paper or stone or nothing. Pretty much all Catholics well know that such artistic creations are not exact and easily could be way off.

I tend to think it comes from, "let us make man in our own image".

Moses is said to have seen God's back.

Makes me wonder if God actually mooned Moses.

I am atheist but i find ancient ecclesiastical architecture to be fascinating and the artwork absolutely wonderful. I have visited many cathedrals and churches including the Sistine chapel just to look

Maybe it's a question of whether one should build monuments to one's ego or use the money in more productive ways?
