According to the scriptures, this world is passing away, but those in the will of God abide forever.
Any thoughts about this, concerns about passing away with this temporary world, or desire to live forever?

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17

Would any person with a modicum of decency lament the passing of this world? I would gladly see it gone!....and the sooner the better. o_O

I hate what it stands for and the direction it is heading.....its downright creepy.....way too violent, and has lost its moral compass.

If those who do the will of God live forever, then where do we suppose that life will be spent?
I see us living in perfect peace and security right here on earth, in paradise conditions where God meant for us to live forever. (Revelation 21:2-4)

Here are some verses from the 37th Psalm....these are very encouraging to me.

"1 Do not be upset because of evil men

Or envious of wrongdoers.

2 They will quickly wither like grass

And shrivel like green new grass.

3 Trust in Jehovah and do what is good;

Reside in the earth, and act with faithfulness.

4 Find exquisite delight in Jehovah. . . .

7 Keep silent before Jehovah

And wait expectantly for him.

Do not be upset by the man

Who succeeds in carrying out his schemes.

8 Let go of anger and abandon rage

Do not become upset and turn to doing evil.

9 For evil men will be done away with,

But those hoping in Jehovah will possess the earth.

10 Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more;

You will look at where they were,

And they will not be there.

11 But the meek will possess the earth,

And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

And he will grant you the desires of your heart. . . .

27 Turn away from bad and do what is good,

And you will remain forever.

28 For Jehovah loves justice,

And he will not abandon his loyal ones.

They will always be guarded;

But the descendants of the wicked will be done away with.

29 The righteous will possess the earth,

And they will live forever on it."

These verses give me great comfort....

The documents making up the Bible were written centuries ago and we are all still here. One day the earth will cease to be due to natural causes, nothing to do with any god.

No concerns for me as I believe a just God will grant eternal life to all who live virtuous lives if God grants it to anyone. So I just concentrate on living a virtuous life as to me it is those who live virtuous lives that are doing God’s will.

My first thought is why is god dragging it all out? According to the Bible the world was suppose have passed away two thousand years ago: "This generation shall not pass . . . ." and all.

This is a teaching found in some branches of Christianity that really grates some folks the wrong way. Those who find appeal in contemporary Paganism as a religious movement reject the narratives about the world we live in being broken or of no concern. Contemporary Paganism developed as a countercultural religious movement around the same time environmentalism was gaining traction. Paganisms on the whole are nature-based, or understand that the sacred is present within nature. A Christian teaching that states we should disregard nature is directly opposed to that ideal. Relatedly, the desire for a human to live forever or go against needed natural cycles of change is often viewed as a prime example of human hubris. That, and many contemporary Pagans adhere to some form of reincarnation rather than a once and done model found in various Christian traditions.

In short, those teachings of the Bible don't appeal to me in the least. I have no interest in living forever - such an abomination that would be - and I have far too deep a love of the world around me to be so dismissive of it. The nature-centeredness of contemporary Paganism was a huge appeal factor for me back when I first learned about it.

This sort of debasement of the value of our lives in the here and now is at the foundation of some of the worst harm perpetrated by religion.

"Even in your folly and despising ye each serve your Self, ye despisers of the body. I tell you, your very Self wanteth to die, and turneth away from life.

No longer can your Self do that which it desireth most:—create beyond itself. That is what it desireth most; that is all its fervour.

But it is now too late to do so:—so your Self wisheth to succumb, ye despisers of the body.

To succumb—so wisheth your Self; and therefore have ye become despisers of the body. For ye can no longer create beyond yourselves.

And therefore are ye now angry with life and with the earth. And unconscious envy is in the sidelong look of your contempt.

I go not your way, ye despisers of the body! Ye are no bridges for me to the Superman!—"

That's from an Abrahamic, specifically Christian viewpoint I don't hold, except for the part that everything dies and is dying.

That said, while I may joke about "that asteroid" hitting hard and hitting fast, and not willing to wait 428,898 years for Lord Kalki to come and take out the trash, there is an overwhelming beauty in this world and in life I would be extremely sad to see go. My belief system is life-affirming and world-affirming. We don't shun it, though probably most of us look forward to the release from the cycles of birth and death.

We, each one of us, already live forever, have lived forever, and will live forever. It's just the form we take and where we take it. The scripture I follow says "Never was there a time when I [Krishna speaking] did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.... For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. ... "

However, the material world will pass away as it has done from infinity, and will do to infinity. The cycles of creation and destruction had no beginning and have no end.

I think we are still here only because God is patient...

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is patient toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-0

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I find that the message of the biblical scriptures makes more sense, though.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I agree with your sentiments about the state of this world system. I hope more people will repent and seek God's goodness. I look forward to a new heaven and earth.

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. Isaiah 65:17

“For as the new heavens and the new earth Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain. Isaiah 66:22

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2 Peter 3:13

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Revelation 21:1

Actually, I believe God the Creator of heaven and earth created LIFE to be enjoyed with joy in all goodness and beauty with which He intended. It is the sinful conditions of man's world system apart from God which has tainted, damaged, and is destroying life which the scriptures guarantee are and will pass away. Sin/ moral evil, because it is harmful, is to be despised, not LIFE.

I feel sorry for the sad. lonely, chaotic state and worldview of Frederich Nietzsche and all the LIFE he missed out on.

Do you think that is meant literally? I mean will the earth will pass away or is it referencing the first century world of Israel and the Roman Empire?

Naw. Not overly concerned or worried.

The universe does it's thing. Life comes and goes same as the Earth itself.

You probably put a little thought into what you're having for dinner or some effort into choosing the right doctor or finding a job you like that pays enough, or the right place to live, or buying a decent car or cell phone. Isn't it strange that people put effort into thinking about these kind of things all the time; researching, discussing, deliberating, concerned about making the right decision, yet give no real thought to where they will spend eternity?
