Old or new testament

In my opinion, christians should follow the words of Jesus alone. The Old testament is old and is good for history only. The new testament is what really matters. The apostles said things too but they are not gods like jesus. When it comes to christians, we should count Jesus' words above all. :) So when we say the bible has contradictions we ask ourselves what did Jesus say?

It is Jesus' history! It is Jesus who provides the continuity with Hebrew Scripture, without which there can be no understanding of Christian Scripture or the person of Jesus.

But...but...didn't Jesus say the he didn't come to change the law (which, of course, was the law of the Old Testament)?

You and Marcion. 'Course he was declared a heretic by the Church.

Abolish and fulfill are idioms used in the context of the Torah that mean "render void" and "uphold." There are many examples of this usage, in Jewish literature.

If the Sanhedrin gives a decision to abolish (uproot, la'akor) a law, by saying for instance, that the Torah does not include the laws of Sabbath or idolatry, the members of the court are free from a sin offering if they obey them; but if the Sanhedrin abolishes (la'akor) only one part of a law but fulfills (lekayem) the other part, they are liable. Mishnah, Horayot 1:3

Whoever fulfills the Torah when poor will in the end fulfill it in wealth. And whoever treats the Torah as nothing when he is wealthy in the end will treat it as nothing in poverty. Mishnah, Avot 4:9

First, God says He never changes. So anything He said thousands of years ago is just as valid today. Second, if we follow Jesus words, Jesus said to keep the commandments, which are in the Old Testament. So that gives validity to at least part of the OT. Third, you cannot go through the law books of yu city or state and pick out the parts you like or don't like. Why should you pick out prts of the Bible, which is God's law book.

Correct. In the ot he gave the commands. He directly spoke the commands through the burning bush.

yes the commands are gods direct words. jesus accepts them of course and adds love.

the only law in the bible is the direct spoke of god and NOT prophets. the commands and everything JESUS said are to be hold sacred. the prophets spoke indirectly and we don't know how truthful they are. and their words are second best.

The Old testament is old and is good for history only.

Given that you did not post this thread in the Christian DIR or even the Same Faith sub-forum, I assume that you are not seeking responses only from Christians.

As a Jew, as a rabbi, and despite the pain from my busted arm, the only proper response I can come up with is -
