Notre-Dame Cathedral is on fire!

I simply like old architecture, when it gets destroyed it is a loss for future generations

It was a national icon and world heritage centre

If BBC reports are anything to go by, it was more a neglected museum than a cherished place of worship. On the up-side; its restoration will provide work for a decade or so. But very sad, all the same.

Am I?

I'm actually glad about that, but....would you tell me where the forests are in France, how many there are, and how big they are?

Thanks.

A lot of France is forest. I live in one. Much of the Perigord noir is forest (one reason it's called noir because the trees density make it a dark region). South west Aquitaine thickly forested, in fact most of nouvelle aquitaine is forest.

South east france (Provence and surrounding regions) are also thickly forested.

Also the east

Here is a map showing tree density, the darker the green the more dense. Note the relatively few lighter areas to the north and north west where forests are sparse.

I was thinking that the forests would be far from Paris.
But I don't know, having never been to Cheeseatingsurrendermonkeyistan.

Thick forests are far away but the are areas around paris not given over to agriculture that are moderately forested. See map on post above

Been here before, Yes they make/eat great cheese, you should try some, want recommendations? But you are well wrong on the military, they have won a higher percentage of battles and wars than any other country, including the US.

BBC ? Right,

Far from neglected, i think every time ive been there has been work in progress but it could have done with more work.

I share your scepticism re the BBC; or maybe I'm being unfair to their reporters. Apologies. :(

French billionaires are putting in a couple hundred million euros to rebuild it, just heard about it... I'm sure there's sources on the 'net about it.

I regard the Notre-Dame Cathedral as a historic building which was a place worth visiting. I have no interest in its religious significance, especially that of the deeply offensive Catholic doctrine, which has done so much harm over the centuries.

Let me counter your argument.

That's....self contradictory.

Nope, it is fact. Most of the sapeurs pompiers in france are volunteers. It it a very prestigious thing to be a volunteer.

Only paris and lile have paid fire service.

However the equipment is second to none
