Researchers at CERN break “The Speed of Light”

Scientists said on Thursday they recorded particles travelling faster than light - a finding that could overturn one of Einstein's fundamental laws of the universe.

Likely not over turn, but maybe add a new dimension to the behavior of particles in the Quantum world if true. It is most likely that the speed limit in the macro world will likely remain at the speed of light.

If it's true, it will be something we thought wasn't possible. So it will shake things up a bit.

I'm trying to figure out if this is just a report of the Opera results from a few years ago. If so, it has been explained.

In the previous report, scientists asked the community to explain some anomalous results suggesting neutrinos were going faster than light. it was discovered that a cable was adding a slight delay in a circuit measuring the time and that caused the error.

Is this a *new* report or is it just the old report re-told?

/E: Too much coincidence. This is a re-teeling of the old result and has been shown to be wrong.

Sorry. I remember the hubub when the previous report came out. The lesson is that these things are *very* easy to mess up.

The hypothetical faster then the speed of light has been around a while for the Quantum World.

That is a very different thing. In QM, there is no actual information that moves faster than light. There are correlations between things widely separated, but the correlation is set up and propagates slower than light.

I remember reading the last one as well. This article is dated Saturday, April 13, 2019 so I'm thinking it's a new claim.

Too many overlaps. I'd like to see other confirmation that this same team is making the same claim and again asking the community for help. And it does appear to be the same team, etc.
