The sex seems failry realistically portrayed as well. It's hit or miss on how much of a crime rape is and if it's even a punishable offense or not, reproduction is top priority (especially for royal families), men can more or less do what they want in pursuit of obtaining sexual pleasure, and sex for love really isn't much of a thing (as coupling for love itself wasn't a thing). You even get varying degrees of acceptance and tolerance of homosexuality and ******* children.
I guess I’ve been spoiled by the international Indie scene. Tasteful, actually erotic and often artistic portrayals. The sex in the HBO series often seems random, like they could gleefully finally break free of the chains of conservatism. So here’s some sex scenes. They do seem unflinchingly brutal with rape being a reality, I’ll give them that.

There is that much sex in the books as well (often involving minors, again, because that's just how it was then - most of child, teenaged, and young adult characters were made older in the TV show because today it's not at all appropriate).

I’m not denying the series itself is full of sex and blood. I’m saying the sex scenes themselves are kind of vulgar and juvenile. I can practically hear the snickering of the writers whenever they show one. Some are done well, to be fair and others do serve a different purpose. Some just reek of the backward American approach to sex (which is understandable since it’s American.) Like they pull back or just don’t understand eroticism. Ive seen far better in foreign movies, often coupled with grissly violence.
I do understand tip toeing around the more questionable ages of the younger characters. That would be rather.......awkward and potentially illegal.

No potentials. When the books start, Danny is only 13 or 14, the age when she was sold to Khal Drogo as a bride.

Not to mention Tyrion, widely considered the brainy one of the cast, decided the best way to cool off a 12 year old (in the book) mini tyrant is to buy him a prostitute.

Yeah. That was a brutal scene, but at the same time I liked it because it built up just how monstrously sadistic Jeoffry actually was. He enjoyed torture so much that he even eschewed sex to inflict pain and death. It made his death all the more sweet, and frustrating that he didn't suffer more than he did and got off extremely light compared what other characters got.

I think it was partly to establish by GRRM that revenge fantasies don't go well in Westoros. People who consistently pursue jr usually end up dead. And when the baddest of bads die, it's usually for reasons of political expedience.
Though I think the TV series has missed that message somewhat.

I dunno. Dying and looking like a Wanka child, Violent Beauregarde, after chewing that gum is it's own reward.

And I loved that Emma Peel was the one who did him in.
Bravo!

As cruel and wicked as he was, even with all the details described in the book that the show can't capture (such as what is described by many characters as a "pathetic look of desperation" as Jeoffry reached for his mother to help him) didn't make his death good enough for my satisfaction. I would have enjoyed him being flayed alive by the Boltons far more.

Flaying is too cruel.
I'd prefer flensing.

Just me I guess, considering its popularity, but GOT seems like a celebration of human depravity. I will admit I haven't seen it. You can't miss the promos if you watch TV at all. Each one I happen to see strengthens my conviction. I have started changing channels as soon as one appears.
Crowds at a public hanging?
Having read the books and seen the series, I think Martin create wanted to create a fantasy which included much of the reality that existed in our own history. He then offers characters that try to break the violence and abuse of his world but faced impossible odds. Our human history unfortunately has too much reality of human depravity in it. So I disagree that it is not a celebration of human depravity but rather to depict inhumanity as being the reality for most and actually celebrate those that try to make changes to improve the reality. I think he created a setting more realistic of our past (excluding dragons and white walkers) that many other fantasy books that create the "evil" forces as distinct from humans. It does not take much research to find horrifying brutality and abuse in human history and remember the courage of those who tried to tried to oppose it. HBO may have made some overplay of sex scenes but it did show interesting views of how the events affected and changed the characters. Unfortunately for the books the series overtook Martin but it happened and we are still wondering if he will ever finish the books within the next century. The cruelty of human history extends to all parts of the world and there is no shortage of examples. Crowds at beheadings, hangings and other orchestrated events have occurred throughout history.
Epilogue : Martin created the long winter in his story but are we not facing the long summer? Is our fate any less dependent on the cooperation of us to stop the possible catastrophic events that we are facing? There might not be a Cersei on a throne but the is a Trump in the White house - who is really more evil? Just something to think about.

In my imagination, there is no such thing. Stab his hands and dip them in hot oil, cut his hands off with hot pincers, break his bones, hang him, and draw and quarter him, and toss his remains that are still hopefully still alive onto a fire.

"I say we stomp him, then we tattoo him, then we hang him, then we kill him!"

That sounds a bit like what they did to Ragnar Lothbrok. Or was it what Ragnar Lothbrok did to others? Maybe combinations of both. It's been a while.

My biggest problem with GOT is that it is on HBO.

I have to wait until the season ends and then binge-watch from NetFlix. I just finished last season. Unfortunately, I will know the end long before I get to see it.

There are very easy ways around this you know...

I've got HBO and I still use the 'alternative' methods as HBO in my neck of the woods is censored for nudity and language (strangely the f word, but not the c word :D)

That's one thing that greatly confuses me about America. The country yells for freedom of speech and decries even the slightest amount of censorship in any context. Even going so far as accuse other countries of lacking such a respect for free speech. And yet they're the only ones I know of (in the West) that heavily censors television. Everyone else just kicks back adult shows/movies to past prime time and only really censors a show if it airs before 8pm. Whereas, at least when I was in Cali, it was censored all the time. It greatly threw me.
