Has mankind lost?

Has mankind lost morality? When this word morality are spoken about, why do so many people get aggresive and want to blame the one who ask?

To put it simply, ethics consist of the moral code, or philosophy, that guides a person’s choices and behaviors throughout their life. The idea of a moral philosophy extends beyond the individual to include what is right (and what is wrong) for the community and society at large. Ethics is concerned with rights, responsibilities, use of language, what it means to live an ethical life and how people make moral decisions.

One of the problems is the definition of morality has been confused by philosophy. The analogy is although CO2 is fundamental to life; photosynthesis plant food, CO2 has been given a bad political name, so what is critical to life on earth, is now considered scary and evil.

Morality is rational, and not relative, if one understands the original meaning. Morality was designed to be the rules for a team sport. It was designed for the needs of a group and not the individual. The team has the property of becoming more than the sum of its parts. Morality was a set of rules designed to mesh all the parts into a strong team.

If you look at the ten Commandments, these are not designed for the individual. Having one God, would prevent open discussion. However, having one God is good for the group, since religious discussions and debates can divide the group. If we all agree, not to push this issue, the team stays stronger. There is individual sacrifice with the team benefiting.

Philosophy has confused the team meaning of morality, by suggesting morality means personal philosophy for living, out of the context of the optimized team. Individual choice is where things start to become relative, since different people have difference choices and needs. This causes the team to weaken; immoral means it weakens the team.

The analogy is a sports team that seeks a championship. To reach the championship, the player cannot all be hotdogs and/or place themselves first. They need to listen to the coach and sacrifice their whims for the team. The best players at each position will be chosen by the coach and not based on temper tantrums or politics. If we applied relative morality to members of the team, then everyone would want to have it their way. The team will weaken even though all the ego's feel better.

I prefer to define morality and ethics, as two opposing principles; team versus individual. Morality is an optimized set of team rules while ethics tries to rationalize, which means self serving addenda. Both are important, but a balance needs to be struck to become a champion team. Currently, things appear to slanted toward ethics, which results in less efficiency, higher costs and team division.

Morality is not relative, but rather is absolute. There is a sweet spot that optimizes the team and minimizes costs. Not all spots are sweet spots or else all teams would be champions. With a proper code of morality we can all come champions, no matter your role, The team wins. Ethics never allows everyone to be a winner. It divides into winner and losers.

Has mankind lost morality?
I don’t think so. In general terms, people seem to have been pretty much the same throughout recorded history.

When this word morality are spoken about, why do so many people get aggresive and want to blame the one who ask?
Maybe because it’s so often spoken about in the context of “Why are you all so immoral and not as good as me?”.

Traditional, shared cultural definitions of morality are breaking down. But I think it's part of how someone is asked. Some questions are in reality statements.

But morality has also gone through changes over time. It was once moral to sacrifice children and eat one's enemies. Now it's revolting.

The problem i see with morality is that many religious people use it as a weapon.

"You dont worship our god therefore you are immoral" or "i am more moral than you because i am a _________ (insert religion of choice here)."

Human beings are moral creatures, without human morality then human beings would not have created civilization in which gods could be invented and worshipped.

People lost it all. Yes people are not moral anymore.

Morality is lost only to those who expect it to be one thing.
For us moral relativists, it just changes.
Is it for better or worse?
That is a matter for individual judgement.

IMO, morals are based on feelings. Feelings aren't necessarily rational. Ethics on the other hand are a set of codes we think it would be "good" for the individual, as a member of the group to follow.

We try to bring moral stability through ethics. However since how we feel about things, what's right and wrong, keeps evolving, morality is inherently unstable. What we accept as ethical can change overtime.

When the the ethics that we want for stability is no longer accept by larger numbers of people, that stability along with whatever benefits we saw from that code gets lost. Usually a new code of ethics is developed that is acceptable to a majority which the majority or whoever holds the reigns of power chooses to enforce.

IMO people never lose their sense(feeling for) what's right and what is wrong. People do what they feel is right for them to do at the time. They don't do what they feel is wrong for them to do. Someone else may disagree with there action, see it as wrong and call it wrong.

Ethics/moral codes certainly influence or feelings about right and wrong, along with many other factors but ultimately it depends on who you personally feel about a particular ethic/moral code as to whether you are will to follow it or not. I think most seek a ethical code they like/feel good about for the most part and try to live by it with greater or lesser degrees of success. If they run into issues with how they personally, morally feel, they'll usually seek a more compatible ethical/moral code.

The truth remains constant whether people acknowledge it or not. Even if you set darkness for light or light for darkness. Can you walk off a cliff and expect to walk in the air? You'll end up like Wile E Coyote chasing the roadrunner off a cliff.

Just as you can't deny the fundamental laws of physics you can't deny the truth of right and wrong forever.

So much for moral relativity.

Philosophy has confused
You realize philosophy has zero widespread agreement, don't you? Debate and challenging positions is the core of philosophy, not peer reviewed agreements like science.

"No questions asked" is a recipe for disaster.

Are spirituality & morality (the subject in the OP) the same?
