Favourite sport

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I like martial arts but I keep getting my *** whooped. Everything aches now from all the running that I do.

I relegated myself to playing chess where I get my *** whooped a lot there too and my brain hurts. But some people don't consider Chess a sport. I digress being that you need to exercise the grey matter making it a mental sport , but that's just me.

But I'm having lots of fun so far.

Aussie Rules football. Never have played it, and I'm WAY too old now. But I like to watch it.

Used to play tennis, was never very good.

Running my mouth, jumping to conclusions....very good at it.

Oh, and I swim when I can find water enough to float in. Not fast. I swim like a tugboat; slow, ungraceful, fat, but pretty much unsinkable. Does arguing count?

Swimming, but aikido and hiking are up there too.
I’m pretty good at all of them, but I’ve never been competitive in sports.

I like cycling, an 80 mile ride is good for me.

I also like walking (short hikes) of around a 2 or 3 hours.

Same. I'm a bit out of practice, but I used to ride the Towpath trail along the Cuyahoga River from the end to end and back every weekend.

I like long walks as well, but more on nature trails. I don't do it as often as I like, because my knee isn't so fond of it as I am.

The walk we do are pretty nature oriented, forests and alongside rivers.

France is made for cycling, its the national sport, you cant go anywhere without seeing a groups of enthusiastic riders of all ages enjoying a ride and competitive races.

Ive seen the Tour de France a few time when it come close enough.

We have american neighbours who, during a cycling vacation passed through the village, fell in love with it and stayed.

One tale. The Tour de Perigord was racing through the village a coup!e of years ago. We were on the balcony cheering them on. Barricades lining the route, traffic banned, really serious stuff. An old lady wanted to visit her neighbour across the road. A marshal stepped out, stopped the race, helped the lady across the road and restarted the race... Only in France could that happen.

Which one do you like the most of all? How good are you in it?

Was pretty good at ping pong er... table tennis. That was quite a few years ago though.

What was really cool is when you get "into the zone" consciously you're like a bystander/observer. Just watching your body react to, control the ball. The subconscious mind can react many times faster than one could consciously control.

That is such a cool story!

In my neck of the woods, as the need for railroads wanes, many of the defunct railroad beds are converted to hike and bike trails.

There's such a trail in Pennsylvania I used to ride quite frequently that follows the Allegheny River and extends from Oil City to Emlenton that actually has two railroad tunnels one passes through that are about a mile or so in length with the only thing one has to guide oneself with is a headlight.

It's quite an experience to be riding on a hot summer day and entering the mountain, feeling the temperature drop around 20 or so degrees by the time you get to the heart of it. What makes it more interesting is that the tunnels curve, so you can't see any daylight from the other end until you're about halfway through.

Archery, the old stick and string type. I like the instinctiveness required without sights and doo- dads. Typically make my own arrows, fletching is usually from turkeys I have shot, natural animal sinews and use metal arrowheads but have made a few from the front leg bones of deer, very strong materiel. I have made a few bows myself, favourite wood is hedge or Osage orange as they call it around here. I have won some awards at primitive shoots, still working on the shooting while on horseback, very difficult as I don't have constant access to a horse.

I like the concentration more gentle sports like golf, snooker, curling, or baseball. Did all of these many years ago. Not good at any.

It should be very easy to hit the horse you're riding.

I have only used blunts while practicing on horseback which amounted to fitting and expoxying an empty .38spl case for the "arrowheads" they will still punch a hole in the target but if you drop a few arrows while riding (which I have) the horse won't possibly be injured accidentally with a sharp head.
