Nah. We just need to be direct and honest: In Chaos We Trust.

That would work, too.

"South Dakota will require all public schools to display “May Allah Guide You” signs in a prominent place beginning next school year, after Republican Governor Kristi Noem signed Senate Bill 55 yesterday.

This kind of Islamic kowtowing is hardly surprising in a state where groups can give legislators personalized Korans with the State Seal on them, and where the governor can host a Muslim worship party on her first day in office.

It would be national news if we were talking about any other religion, but conservative Muslims are doing everything they can to push their faith on the people of the state.

Republican majorities are more than willing to give them whatever they want.

Yeah, I really do not care if schools have "in God we trust" posted. I certainly recognize it as a gotcha by christians, but the slogan is now national tradition.

I think it is a mistake to put such a sign in schools as it opens a conversation that teachers of religious leanings to discuss God with students. Hopefully they will acknowledge that the statement "In God We Trust" is merely a national motto with no religious significance whatsoever. That God in this instance is literally meaningless.

I have some. They are the same for this that I have for any attempt by government to force religion on the people.

If they are going to do this, they are going to have to let Muslims, Satanists, JWs, and all the many, many religions and sects put up their favorite slogans too or keep it all out. That is going to require a huge signage budget.

I find it funny that this sort of example will still draw many denials that fundamentalist forms of Christianity are not trying to force their views on others.

This exactly. Having visited South Dakota, I can tell you it's hardcore fundie. This is like the state coming into people's houses and asking if they're willing to worship Caesar as a god (something that happened at one point).

This land was founded by Protestants escaping Catholic regions, Catholics escaping Protestant regions, and pagans and atheists who were were probably getting condemned as witches. It was made a place where government butts out. This is not to say favoring atheism either, but rather staying religiously neutral. All you guys in favor of this, this is not neutral, it's endorsement, and it's also funding by a group to influence policy.

As per 501(c)(3) religious exemptions:

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Organizations described in section 501(c)(3) are commonly referred to as charitable organizations. Organizations described in section 501(c)(3), other than testing for public safety organizations, are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.

The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, and no part of a section 501(c)(3) organization's net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. If the organization engages in an excess benefit transaction with a person having substantial influence over the organization, an excise tax may be imposed on the person and any organization managers agreeing to the transaction.

Section 501(c)(3) organizations are restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities they may conduct. For a detailed discussion, see Political and Lobbying Activities. For more information about lobbying activities by charities, see the article Lobbying Issues; for more information about political activities of charities, see the FY-2002 CPE topic Election Year Issues.

The TL;DR version is, churches/temples that are exempt from taxes are those that do not pass laws trying to push legislation (and no, before you ask, churches don't do this. There are private organizations that support the church, but this is wholly different from trying to mold young children). Otherwise, they should not be considered religious organizations, and be taxed. This goes for churches that try to meddle in elections too.

Great finally some school in AMerica forcing a religion down folks throats that is different from Evangelical conservative Christian. They have to salute the flag say the pledge of allegiance sing the song and have signs about Christianity one flag Under God and cheer leaders sued and won the court case where they have a scripture out of the new testament on their football field sign on their fences where everyone can see and lead a Christian school prayer before all games. If you don't say prayer with Christians when they decide to pray I imagine some non Christian kids in Texas truly get bullied all the time yes.........

Forgive if I seem skeptical about TONS in public/state grounds. In PRIVATE schools and in RELIGIOUS schools, you might see this.

However, in public schools, they are largely governed by the state, and you tend to get more ummm secular posters.

See, no religious posters...

How'd that get there?

Also, you're missing the point. I'm been to South Dakota. I stopped at a rest stop which was three feet from a church. I've been to Wall Drug. Seen Mount Rushmore nearby. Having this at their schools is not the same as South Dakota being nutso fundie. Rather it's a sort of atmosphere of paranoia that suddenly the state is ruling that all schools must have such signs in their school. "Or else what?" Exactly. Will the SWAT teams come in with tear gas to shut down "Christian extremists"?

This is big scary government deciding to undermine the beliefs of most of the people in the state (if they knew about this).

Uh sorry your wrong about Texas public schools, they dont have those signs, it would be like the Christian signs........

In God we trust is our national motto

Would you prefer the motto suggested by liberal Thomas Jefferson who popularized the phrase 'separation of church and state' His motto was "rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God"

A definite step away from laicity. And very much an unfortunate novelty for that.

It may not look like much, but such measures create an entirely undesirable need for state authority to rule on whether situations and people are presenting "proper respect" for Allah.

That is no small matter. To this day Muslims create a lot of serious damage for each other because they can't be at peace with their mutual understandings of such matters. We all should walk away from such calamitous demands, not towards them.

I'm most interested to hear what Christian proponents of enforced Christian prayer and iconography in state institutions think.

I prefer Ben Franklin's mottoes, which were the
