Well it seems that Nancy Pelosi backs lowering the federal voting age to 16

"I, myself, personally -- I'm not speaking for my caucus -- I, myself, have always been for lowering the voting age to 16," Pelosi said. "I think it's really important to capture kids when they're in high school, when they're interested in all of this, when they're learning about the government, to be able to vote."

Of course she supports this rich pool of socialists & Democrats.
I say that even 18 is too young. Voters should have some
experience out there in the real world.
21 years old is no guarantee, but it's a reasonable threshold.

Nope. They have zero or next to zero adult life experiences. I rather see the age increase.

Driving a car is a much more serious responsibility than voting, because irresponsible driving puts many lives at risk, and most US states allow 16 year olds to drive. I don't have an issue with 16 year olds voting but I do think the driving age should be raised to 18.

Driving is dangerous immediately.
Voting is dangerous in the long term.

I think we should raise it to 40. Ok, maybe early to mid 30's. Lots of impressionable minds with little experience of the world.

Sure. What's the downside?

The US's awful voter turnout rate is a problem. The current approach isn't working. Why not try something new?

I say set the age to vote at the most restrictive minimum age to purchase a handgun as determined by the most restrictive state laws. For example CA.
Except grant a waiver to those on active duty in the military. There, voting age would be the minimum age at which one can join the military. If you can die for your country you should have a say in who sends you to fight.

Nah....special rights for military sounds too much like Starship Troopers.
Of course, I predicate this on there being no draft.

If they will add a public IQ certification for all applicants of any government office, yes. I will accept a lower age for voters, but I want certification of near average or better IQ of all government employees who work in any management capacity. No more dunderheads.

I voted no
-You can join the military at 18 so only those 18 and over should be able to choose who makes the decisions that will directly affect military personnel whether volunteering for service or not.

Though unrelated I have always thought that an active member of the armed forces should be able to buy alcohol and purchase a pistol (passing background check and doing the paperwork of course) instead of having to wait until they are 21. If you can kill, be maimed, or possibly die in the service of your country you should be able to legally have a drink if you want one.

An attempt to limit anyone getting into office with an opposing political view. They already done a pretty good job of this by ballot harvesting. Imagine the untold resource of ballots to harvest from 16yos who may not even have a political interest.

Responsible people don't own firearms.

I think you just figured out a possible answer to the supposed over population problem, we have ~393 million guns in the U.S. and about ~327 million people, now if you could get at least half of the gun owners to act irresponsibly half the population would be gone.

I see no problems with it. Age is just a number. There are some rather bright 16-year-olds out there who know more about politics and government than a lot of people in their 40s, 50s, or older.
