Religious and safety considerations aside, what are your thoughts about a woman or man having sex for money? That is, having sex for money that would in no way adversely affect the person.

As I see it. there is no way it does not adversely affect the person. Besides the risk of physical disease, there are the emotional ramifications which occur because the person is being used solely as an object for physical gratification with no interest or regard to the whole person. I believe it is detrimental to both individuals because sexual relations are meant to involve much more than the physical.

Most likely not the oldest profession, but nonetheless it needs put in context of human history, and not morality and ethics. The morality is not the main issue, because by and large most prostitutes are victims in one way or another of the patriarchal culture they must survive in. Actually apart of a social caste system in most cultures.

Hunters and gatherers are the oldest professions.

I think the US is too prudish about sex. Guy or girl wants some companionship and is willing to pay for it. It's not all perversion. It is about finding comfort in noncommittal intimacy.

Seems to me it be a lot safer if legal and regulated by the government. It being illegal makes it risky and unsafe all around.

"Would you like your daughter to be a prostitute?" Well no not really, but it's her choice. If it was her choice, I'd want it to be as safe as possible.

Yeah, I didn't think we'd get very far before some Christian would find it necessary to disregard my question and take off on another tack, but I certainly didn't think it would be as early as post #3, But what can a guy do.

I don't believe prostitution is harmless. Besides the disease potential which is ever present, it's ultimately degrading sometimes in spite of appearances.

Nah, hunting and gathering are jobs, not professions. ;)

I certainly did not disregard your question, nor did I bring up anything directly linked to God, the Bible, or Christianity.

Imo prostitutes should be routinely medically examined, monitored, registered and licensed by the state in order to prevent the spread of V.D. as well as for the prostitution industry to generate revenue for the state, which could use this revenue for human health services. ...:)

You missed the point of my post. Prostitution in and of itself is not the main moral issue, whether people consider it moral, immoral, ethical, or a crime. The 'caste' systems of patriarchal cultures are what are responsible for prostitution. I prefer to address the culture issues.

Well, ah . . . than prostitution was not the first 'jobs' hunters and gatherers were. Actually probably trade is the oldest profession by the archaeological evidence. As long as humans were human there is evidence of trade.

So where did you answer my question: "Religious and safety considerations aside, what are your thoughts about a woman or man having sex for money?"? You didn't because you couldn't do it. You had to disregard the "safety considerations aside." and the condition that "having sex for money that would in no way adversely affect the person."

It's like taking an algebra test: "Find y in 7(y+4)-3(y-5)=6y+35," and deciding not to include the y-5 because you didn't like it.

nor did I bring up anything directly linked to God, the Bible, or Christianity.
No you didn't, for which you get a gold star.

The illegality of prostitution may be a reason why prostitutes are easily victimized, because they are scared of being prosecuted themselves if they were to report any crimes done against them by their clients or bosses.

"This paper studies the effects of legal street prostitution zones on registered and perceived crime. We exploit a unique setting in the Netherlands where these tippelzones were opened in nine cities under different regulation systems. Our difference-in-difference analysis of 25 Dutch cities between 1994-2011 shows that opening a tippelzone decreases registered sexual abuse and rape by about 30-40 percent in the first two years. For cities which enforced licensing in tippelzones, we also find reductions in drug-related crime and long-term effects on sexual assaults. Effects on perceived drug nuisance depend on the regulation system and the proximity of respondents to the tippelzone."

Nay. Using other people's bodies for selfish purposes is simply wrong. And getting them to agree to it for money or whatever else, doesn't change that fact.
