Nine Pieces Of Evidence That Confirm The Historical Accuracy Of The Bible

Veteran Member
Isn't that strange?
Apostle Paul wrote it and beheaded 64 or 67 AD
Then after 110 AD, long before Paul was buried, here comes Ignatius who coined the word "Catholic"

The combination "the Catholic Church" (he katholike ekklesia) is found for the first time in the letter of St. Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans, written about the year 110.
CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Catholic

Where is the spin? Paul wrote it.
And this one is a long time ago, even before our grand grand daddies were even born.

So these things are hard to ignore as evidence about the bible
To big to ignore the historic and prophetic accuracy of the book.

Catholic just means universal...

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
People have known they were living in the last days many times through history.
I enjoyed Millenium (Tom Holland) for it's clear narrative, but also the linking of human nature between 1000 AD and 2000 AD in terms of surety around living in prophetic times.
I saw the x-files crossover where the big bad apocalyptic monster was a couple of central casting mummies. Seemed like a let down.

C'mon now...I can find evidence that people actually fled the cities due to the War of the Worlds. That makes it real.
We're heading down a bit of an obscure derail, but on closer inspection, you may actually find that harder than you think. While the '38 broadcast is famous for inspiring mass panic, A. what panic there was was probably among people thinking the reports were about German attacks, rather than Martians, and B. the actual cases of people panicking were probably far fewer than what was reported. It's one of those things "everyone knows" about, but the story as popularly known has a lot more to do with what makes a good story than any actual historical reality.

.

Or so the video below claims
.

The List of Nine, which supposedly verify claims made in the Bible. (The narrator provides the relevant chapters and verses.)

1) A stone that confirms that Pontius Pilatus was the Prefect of Judea.

2) A tunnel was created under the city of David to carry water.

3) A clay cylinder describes how Sennacherib laid siege against various cities

4) A stone mentioning there was an Israelite king of the house of David.

5) A stone cites Omri as the king of Israel.

6) The remnants of a house was found that verifies the town of Nazareth existed in the first century AD.

7) A clay cylinder recounts Cyrus II declaration of human rights

8) The discovery of the pool of Siloam

9) A stone tablet shows the existence of the Hittites

Of course our young presenter in the video conveniently ignores all the evidence that disproves the Bible's historical accuracy, but this is to be expected. When cherry picking no one ever picks the "bad" cherries.

In any case, even if all nine of the examples are true, one can only say, SO WHAT? What's so amazing (as the narrator would like the viewer to believe) about historical events showing up in the Bible? Heck, even if the Bible was a pure fabrication from Genesis to Revelation, the fabricator would certainly have been astute enough to include historical facts to make the thing appear genuine---it's why counterfeiters go to such extremes to make their money appear real. In this case it's like expecting the viewer to get excited because the Bible mentions the Mediterranean Sea, or that the Sun sets in the west. SO WHAT?

Nope, it's stupid stuff like this video that fill the believer with unjustified confidence in his faith. Do Christians really need to be duped so as to hold onto their faith? . . . . . . . . . . . . . maybe so, but it's not pretty.

.

How about 900 examples? Or 9,000? Because that's what we HAVE in archaeology, fulfilled prophecy, human history, and life changes.

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
The way I see it is that if the Bible is seen true in what we can check it is trustworthy in what we cannot check.

Did you have an issue where you feel otherwise?
That's the exact fallacious reasoning this thread is about.

As I already mentioned, We can check that Abraham Lincoln was a real Person. That does not make Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter a true story.

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
How about 900 examples? Or 9,000? Because that's what we HAVE in archaeology, fulfilled prophecy, human history, and life changes.
Every time I see the "all these fulfilled prophecies!" claim, I ask for a list of unambiguous fulfilled Biblical prophecies. I must have asked over a hundred times, and I have only ever had two answers. The first is no response. The second is; "... well... Israel..." and that's it. Got any others?

All the archaeological claims support the historical context of Biblical stories, but with few exceptions, rarely do the support the specific events of the Bible except in the broadest of terms. By all means, show me examples to the contrary, please.

"Human history"? I think that's double dipping in the archaeology well.

"Life changes" I'm not even sure what that's meant to mean, let alone how it's evidence of Biblical accuracy.

In short, I think you're ad hoc-ing. Please feel free to prove me wrong.

The people I know who I would call real Christians are involved in trying to live the essential message of love and service to humanity and the world. They read about how the "letter killeth", what people are invited to do in the Sermon on the Mount and the statement of the Two Greatest Commandments and find that is all they need to know.

What would you call those among us who live
up to these standards and more, though not
Christians nor religious in any sense?

Id like to point out that you have nothing to cherry pick that goes against the bible.

There's too much evidence, and any lack of evidence for some parts is not evidence against those parts.

And nobody says it is.

What you conveniently leave out is ye elephant in room.

There are some real big parts that not only lack
evidence, but are so thoroughly and obviously false,
that educated Christians have only two ways
they can go- Intellectual dishonesty, or, interpret
things like the flood as metaphor.

You are not a valid judge on who is and who is not a Christian. In fact I bet that you believe that your God lied.

And it is not my Tyre prophecy, it is a prophecy in the Bible. You should read it some day.

That is correct, I am not the judge but...
I'm pretty sure that the guidelines of identifying who is Christian and who is not were clearly stated in the Bible.

Ephesians 4:4-6 New International Version (NIV)
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

There is only one Christian faith, not a variety of Christian faiths. - it must be the genuine tamale.
They said tamales are delicious, however I haven't tried one.

That genuine one Christian faith has one God and Father of all.
It does not have the Son as God
It does not have the Holy Spirit as God
Only the Father is God.
Other than that, it ain't Christian amigo.

1 Corinthians 10:14 New International Version (NIV)
Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

The New Testament Bible says flee from idolatry but yet you have these so called Christian churches having and venerating the cross, statues, paintings and relics. These are idols. I wish they could snap out of their zombie like state and realize they are just worshiping a piece of wood which some drunk made.

I have not come across the Tyre but I'm biased to Goodyear brands.
They usually last 10 years and really saves up the cost of replacing these tyres.

to "run across" Tyre.

Peter died before the Destruction of the Temple and the tribulation. He died a martyr's death in 67 AD.

The Bible doesn't say the earth will be destroyed.

Jeremiah 33:20-21 explains why Christ Rules from a Heavenly, Not Earthly, Throne

Jesus calls his kingdom the kingdom of heaven throughout the Gospels.

That is correct. The Bible doesn't say the earth will be destroyed.

The earth will be laid bare:

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

In fact, what will be cleansed of are written in Zephaniah:

Zephaniah 1:2-3 New International Version (NIV)
“I will sweep away everything
from the face of the earth,”
declares the Lord.
“I will sweep away both man and beast;
I will sweep away the birds in the sky
and the fish in the sea—
and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble.”

“When I destroy all mankind
on the face of the earth,”
declares the Lord,

Yes.

Who is Zephaniah 1:2-3 is referring to?

I think he was talking about the coming judgment of Judah.

Zephaniah’s prophetic revelations and stern warnings occurred during Josiah’s reign (Zephaniah 1:1), and this would place his writings between 640 and 609 B.C.

Josiah led Judah to religious and social reform, but Zephaniah declared that these spiritual changes would not last. The people of Judah would return to wickedness and rebellion against God.

are at least better based than others,

Revelation 3:21 reads, “He who conquers, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My Throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on His Throne.”

Jesus is again depicted as a conqueror in Revelation 5:5: “The Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so as to open the Book.” This horseman who is said to be a “conqueror bent on conquest” is Jesus Christ.

Jesus is also the lamb.

That happens when you use an incomprehensible bible.
Maybe it would help to understand the verse using a more contemporary bible translation.

Revelation 3:21 New International Version (NIV)
To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Revelation 3:21 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
“I will let everyone who wins the victory sit with me on my throne. It was the same with me. I won the victory and sat down with my Father on his throne.

The white horse and its rider has nothing to do with Rev 3:21

The one who is speaking here is the Lord Jesus inviting the one and everyone who is victorious, the right to sit with him on the throne.

Nice try, but its a dud.
Anyway there was a disco song about the white horse.
Enjoy!

Catholic just means universal...

Agreed.
It means universal.

universal
adjective
uni·ver·sal | \ ˌyü-nə-ˈvər-səl

\
Definition of universal
(Entry 1 of 2)

1 : including or covering all or a whole collectively or distributively without limit or exception especially : available equitably to all members of a society universal health coverage
2a : present or occurring everywhere
b : existent or operative everywhere or under all conditions universal cultural patterns
3a : embracing a major part or the greatest portion (as of humankind) a universal state universal practices
b : comprehensively broad and versatile a universal genius
4a : affirming or denying something of all members of a class or of all values of a variable
b : denoting every member of a class a universal term
5 : adapted or adjustable to meet varied requirements (as of use, shape, or size) a universal gear cutter a universal remote control

It was Ignatius who coined the word. And on the New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia puts it this way:

The combination "the Catholic Church" (he katholike ekklesia) is found for the first time in the letter of St. Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans, written about the year 110. The words run: "Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be, even as where Jesus may be, there is the universal [katholike] Church."
CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Catholic

Which reminds me of Revelation 17:1

Which is an evidence of the historical value and prophetic value of the Bible.
It prophesied the emergence of the Universal church and its growth
after the death of the apostle John

Yes, and probably Jesus had a nose, who would prove His human nature, as deep studies and Biblical Scholarship (B.S) had already ascertained on pure spiritual grounds.
