Atheism is a RELIGION

Matheist

http://animist.net
Usually when people want to assert that atheism is religious they are coming from the position that there is a God to deny, and they can only be correct if there is a God to deny. So what they leave out is that *if the atheists are wrong* then it is a religious position. Claiming that atheists are religious is actually a religious claim, an opinion in the grand scheme -- unless of course God exists and says it isn't.

I'm not asserting anything.. I'm analyzing the official definition of Atheism and find out whether the argument is valid or not.

Not philosophically, because you have not shown a logical process for drawing the same conclusions; and besides Richard Dawkins is a biologist and is still alive not an authority on what is or isn't religious.

Atheism not rooted in science, logic, philosophy, facts and based on the hasty generalization that there is no Truth in gods and religions. This is dogmatism, and it is RELIGIOUS. Different brands, but same product.

Already did:

atheism. n. disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

Conclusion

1. It is a religious claim, and not rooted in science, logic, philosophy etc.
2. The claim for belief in God (The Dawkin's Scale *)
3. The claim for disbelief in God
4. The claim for without belief in God
5. It is Hasty Generalization (Religion) and Dogmatism/Devotion/Faith.

That is a Religion.

Atheism not rooted in science, logic, philosophy, facts and based on the hasty generalization there is no Truth in gods and religions. This is dogmatism, and it is RELIGIOUS.
Also your definition of religion appears to be Islam. You assert that religion involves
1. the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
2. a particular system of faith and worship.
3. a pursuit or interest followed with great devotion.

All of which are aspects of Islam but do not delineate what atheism is or isn't. Essentially you appear to be saying we are either Muslims or atheists, and that's simply not an argument.

I'm what you're referring to here as a weak atheist.
I'm not in any sense of the word 'religious'.

Some atheists are, as they actually practise in a religious manner, complete with rituals, etc. These are pretty rare in my experience, but they exist. Some Satanists fall into this category.

Some atheists parody religion, too. Pastafarians, for example.

But in either case, atheism is not their religion, but a lack of belief in gods. Just like there are theists who are not religious.

Atheism merely "branding" themselves as not a religion.. but that does not change the fact that Atheism is a Religion. The official definition of Atheism has nothing to do with Truth or Fact, but Belief. It is a belief system.

Maybe you could write your point in the form:

All things that do x are religions
Atheism does x
Therefore Atheism is a religion.

I think you just disproved logic itself...

We are living in the world or reality where everything has its causes and effects. Everything has its LordLaw. There is no coincidence.

Thus if you claim Atheism is not a Religion, then their belief, doctrine and way of life must meet the conditions of the Law of Nature.

Nature is the only thing that is NOT RELIGIOUS. Everything else is Religious Belief (ie. against Natural Order).

Premise 1: Who is an Atheist?

Pure Agnostic: God's existence and non-existence are exactly EQUIPROBABLE.
Weak Atheist: I do not know whether God exists, but I'm declined to be SKEPTICAL.
De-facto Atheist: I cannot know for certain, but I think God is very IMPROBABLE.

Premise 2: "Equiprobable, skeptical, improbable" means:

1. Disbelief in God(s)
2. Belief in God(s)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion: Atheism is a religion with 320,000,000 Gods
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Pure Agnostic

God's existence and non-existence are exactly EQUIPROBABLE.

equiprobable: (of two or more things) equally likely to occur; having EQUAL PROBABILITY.

Therefore:

1. Disbelief in God(s)
2. Belief in God(s)
3. Therefore, the definition of Atheism asserts the belief in 320,000,000 Gods.

5. Weak Atheist

I do not know whether God exists, but I'm declined to be SKEPTICAL.

skeptical
1. not easily convinced; having doubts or reservations.
2. relating to the theory that certain knowledge is impossible.
Therefore:

1. Disbelief in God(s)
2. Belief in God(s)
3. Therefore, the definition of Atheism asserts the belief in 320,000,000 Gods.

6. De-facto Atheist

I cannot know for certain, but I think God is very IMPROBABLE.

improbable
1. not likely to be true or to happen.

synonyms: unlikely, not likely, doubtful, dubious, debatable, questionable, uncertain;
More: unexpected and apparently inauthentic.
Therefore:

1. Disbelief in God(s)
2. Belief in God(s)
3. Therefore, the definition of Atheism asserts the belief in 320,000,000 Gods.

Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby

Like not playing football is a sport

Like not believing in god is believing in god

A belief system is not a religion unless you narrowly define religion to be a belief system. Don't you think religion should take some effort and have meaning in people's lives?

Atheism rooted in "ANTI" Theism, and has nothing to do with Truth, Science, Philosophy, Fact, and Knowledge etc. It is rooted in disbelief or lack of belief in God. It's caused by elitist thinking "were smarter than everyone else". It's basically the same as white supremacists (worship), except the idea has to do with religion, as racism.
