Fresh Phish :D:)

YouTube links deleted. I will attempt to locate a source in the public domain. It might take a few days while tapers are inroute from Cancun

Note: I haven't previewed these. Internet is very limited here.

I little snippet about the Grateful Dead

They essentially launched the internet in California before it was the www. By posting gigs and news on the arpa net there wound up with a concentration of internet savvy fans in California, the rest is history

Without them the internet would not be what it is today,

@Landon Caeli,

Apologies, I uploaded the wrong video on post#47.

Here is the one Inintended to post. It's a pretty cool song with a great message.

Darn, it looks like the video is being blocked by nugsnet right now over copyrights. That's happened to me before. I'll definitely keep my eyes out for Rise / Come together @Cancun.

Phish's recent 3 show run in Cancun is now available in the public domain for free downloading on bt.etree.org.

For those of you not familiar with it, many bands officially allow taping of their live shows as long as they are distributed free of charge. bt.etree.org is where you can find many ( if not all ) of these free recordings. The volume and diversity of free live music on etree is astounding. Plus, no ads... It really is free.

Nite 1, most people were talking about the "Spock's Brain" opener. But for me it was all about the encore which was 2 songs "Waste" and a Jimi Hendrix cover of "Bold as Love".

For nite 2, most people were talking about the "Y.E.M." (You Enjoy Myself) opener and 26 minute "Set Your Soul Free". But the entire 2nd set is worth listening to if you like improvisational instrumental rock. 6 songs, 90 minutes, it was a straight up dance party the whole time. Plus, I really liked the single song encore "More"

For nite 3, the encore was ridiculous. But the stand out single greatest song of the whole run was "Say it to me Santos". This song captures the essence of the Phish phenomenon. It's a song that debuted as part of a Halloween gag where the band "dressed up" as a Swedish rock band. This song, "Say it to me Santos" is absurd, it means nothing, but it has become a vehicle for creativity and improvisation on stage. There's more to this story. If you want to read about, a link to the Jambase article is below. I'll also include the official video of the gag.

It's this humorous spirit and creativity that captures what Phish's music is all about. It's about freedom. It's about fun. And each band member is an amazing accomplished musician.

Halloween Gag:

Excerpts from Jambase on Phish's recent 3 night run in Cancun 02/21 02/22 & 02/23 2019:

"
Phish kicked off the third installment of their Phish Riviera Maya destination event at Barceló Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico on Thursday night with the first of three full shows. The quartet was less than two months removed from the best New Year’s Run in recent memory and fans were eager to see if they would keep the momentum going in Mexico. By the end of the evening, the answer was a resounding yes.

Friday night’s concert featured another substantial bust out in the first set that followed an unexpected choice to open the show, “You Enjoy Myself". YEM, the most-played song in the band’s history, had not opened a show since the summer of 2003. It was an unexpected choice, the 12th known “YEM” first set opener. The second half came packed with a pair of big jams, old-school staples and “More.”

Coming on the heels of two shows that featured huge bustouts and huge jams, Saturday’s affair had less of each. But it did have some brilliant improvisation in the middle third of the second set, some excellent playing throughout the night, and an antic-filled six-song encore.

Nice... Reminds me of an interesting TV show I was watching a few days ago, where an astronaut actually described what space smells like, which he said was a combination between burned steak and gunpowder, which I thought was very interesting. :)

...More importantly, thanks for the link to the Cancun show, as well as the show highlights. I’ll definitely be checking that out.

Here's a great Phish tune, "Sand". The lyrics have a Zen-like message?

If you can heal the symptoms
But not affect the cause
It's quite a bit like trying to heal
The gunshot wound with gauze
If you instead attempt to rest
The pistol from the hand
Then I would not be able to
Equate my life with sand

Flowing through the hourglass
Pushing through the funnel
Turn once more and racing
All your siblings for the tunnel
Slide and let the silicone
Embrace you as you fall
Then bounce around
And let your brothers
Crush you to the wall

I would choose my own religion
Worship my own spirit
But if he ever preached to me
I wouldn't want to hear it
I'd drop him a forgotten god
Languishing in shame
And then if I hit stormy seas
I'd have myself to blame
