Matthew 16:23, get thee behind me satan, the church founded on satan?

Matthew 16:23

Is 'satan', a word if endearment? The "opposer"? If it means something different to different people, it might not be an rebuke, at all.
It might be a term of endearment.

It was a rebuke. Peter was looking for worldly glory and tempted Christ to abandon His mission on the cross. Jesus didn't come to set up an earthly kingdom as Peter seems to have thought. Jesus came to suffer and die because Jesus sought the glory that was with God from before the foundation of the world. The glory of God was shame in the world's opinion. He was hung up between two thieves. So what Peter thought was too shameful for Christ was the glory of God.

Well done on the observation...

Simon being rebuked as Satan is Zechariah 3:1-2, and Simon being called the Stone is Zechariah 3:9.

In the Parable of the Seed Sower, the stony ground is plural of petros; thus in other words:

Yeshua could see that Simon was a Pharisee from his statements; where he kept having to correct him, 'as he followed the ways of man, more than the ways of God'.

When Yeshua Cursed the Fig Tree, Simon started to worship him, and Yeshua told him not to, and to have faith in God.

So when in the start of Acts, Simon is teaching people that Yeshua is our Lord and Savoir, he is creating idolatry, and going against Yeshua's teachings.

Thus it goes further than just Simon being satan, as the Christian Church are Pharisees (John, Paul, Simon).

In my opinion. :innocent:

No- the church was founded by Christ! The jews wanted a warrior priest in the tradition of the Macabre tradition. The Macabre revolt occurred some three hundred years before Christ. They overthrew the Greeks and re-established the Israeli state. This brought back regional dominance and riches to the Jews. Jesus offered them a spiritual salvation, and not a material one, and so they rejected him as the messiah. Peter was annoying Jesus on this subject, when Jesus erupted in a fit of anger, and repeated your quote. It was followed by, "If a man come after Me, then let him pick up his cross and follow Me. For what doth it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his sole?".

The what revolt?

When?

I could also mention your use of the word "Israeli"' but I don't want to overburden you.

Well it's easy to see that you don't have any idea or clue What Jesus is referring to,
By saying in Matthew 16:23, Satan get the behind me"

You take this in reference to the church which is ridiculous.
So if what you say is to be true, Then your implying that Christ Jesus built his church upon Satan, You know how ridiculous that is.
So the question is, What exactly did Christ Jesus mean by
( Satan get yourself behind me? )

And this has nothing at all to do with Peter either.

Go look it up!
While I think I can say with some confidence that I know what you were referring to in your post, the fact that you mislabeled it, the fact that you misstated the time frame in which it occurred, the fact that you used a term which is used solely in connection with modern day Israel and not ancient Israel, gives me very little reason to have any confidence in you.
