Existentialism

I believe that religions would beg to differ on this because their respective gods probably provide a reason to live.

Could the meaning of life just be boiled down to doing whatever in life that keeps a person from committing suicide?

The meaning of life is found in a bowling alley. I think The-Jesus ( Mr. Turturro ) was seen there. ;)

But seriously; It's a good question. I will be interested to read the replies.

In a way yes, but its also whatever keeps other people from committing suicide plus the really good parts.

There seems to be some further meaning, too. Its hard to express it in words.

There is a major motion picture where Jude Law plays an android who is about to be destroyed. The title is A.I. Artificial Intelligence. He is a human looking android who is about to be destroyed, and what he does is smiles and says (to the boy) "I am. I was," and the way that scene is done is pretty nice, because it adds in a lot of the ideas of the meaning of life. You are, and you were. You always will have been.

I suppose it could be depending on one's perspective...

...but I see things quite differently...

...I also wonder why one would want to boil the meaning of life.

Dudeism - Wikipedia

"Dudeism is a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle inspired by "The Dude", the protagonist of the Coen Brothers' 1998 film The Big Lebowski. Dudeism's stated primary objective is to promote a modern form of Chinese Taoism, outlined in Tao Te Ching by Laozi (6th century BC), blended with concepts from the Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus (341–270 BC), and presented in a style as personified by the character of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, a fictional character portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the film."

They neglect to mention the rug.

It tied the whole room together.

As I see it, survival. Survival at least long enough for you to procreate.

After that you are on your own.

I see the basic purpose of any species is to keep the species going. As long as the population of the species is stable, it is fulfilling it's purpose.

Dudeism: a modern form of Chinese Taoism blended with concepts from the Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus.

Taoism encourages harmony with the source, pattern and substance of everything that exists.

Taoism - Wikipedia

Epicurus believed that what he called "pleasure" was the greatest good, but that the way to attain such pleasure was to live modestly, to gain knowledge of the workings of the world, and to limit one's desires.

I have never heard of Epicurus before but I shall do some research on him. Thank you for being so resourceful.
