. . . how EXACTLY the future Baha'i government would be set up and how it will function? A question asked by @wandering peacefully

The foundation of the Baha'i future administrative order or government for the Baha'is the Houses of Justice consisting of elected nine members at the local, national and the world by the Universal House of Justice. The obligation to the administrative order is for Baha'is only for the Baha'i Laws and decisions of Houses of Justices.

The separation of the Institutions of the Baha'i Faith and there laws and decision will remain separate from the sovereignty of the governments of the world.

In the future the spiritual principles of the Baha' i will be the standard for the world as many are now.

More will follow . . .

Suppose a new prophet appears. Will the government be flexible enough to recognize them?

I think the 'EXACTLY' part has never been explained but will unfold in time is the official Baha'i position.

The teachings of the Guardian and other official sources call for a future world in which Bahai's will very overwhelmingly be the majority of the human race and the Baha'i Administrative Order is to replace the crumbling institutions of the old (our current) world order. It is to be a Theocracy headed by the divinely guided Universal House of Justice.

Now this sounds challenging to believe and there has been a deemphasizing of all this in recent decades I believe to make the Baha'i Faith more palatable in the Western thinking world.

I was a Baha'i in the early 1980's and I think many younger Baha'is are not even aware of all I said above and may even deny some of things said above. And for clarification I am an ex-Baha'i (but not anti-Baha'i).

This is not a bad summary, but lacking in completeness. If the whole of the scripture of the Baha'i Faith is taken into account the Baha'i institutions of the administrative order will not impose their views on non-Baha'is.

There are principles such as the 'Independent investigation of truth' that preclude imposition of the Baha'i Faith on non-Baha'is, and acknowledging the diversity of the religious views among humanity, and the principles of unity and diversity that is the foundation of the Baha'i principles..

In the Baha'i centers I have participated in this is covered in the deepening sessions for many years, over fifty years as a Baha'i, from young adults and adults. .

I agree that Baha’is are not ones to impose. But the overwhelming manority will be on-board. The minority situation is left to future clarification.

But I personally can’t see stage 1 ever happening, an overwhelming Baha’i majority with major functioning institutions.

It is possible a positive attribute of the Baha'i Faith that it is open to future clarification in contrast to religions and sects that believe they are what they are in finality.

The Baha'i view of science is a positive view of evolving change, considering that the interpretation of scripture in respect to our physical existence is subject to the evolving knowledge of science.

It very well may not happen. I believe that the Baha'i Faith is flexible enough to evolve in the future since that is part of it's nature.

I must state that although I am an ex-Baha’i, I still like Baha’i.

Baha'i
In my view when Baha'u'llah was a prisoner of the Sultan He wrote Tablets to many of the world rulers at the time and called them to form a world parliament and an international court of arbitration. He called this the Most Great Peace. When this failed He said that we would have to be content with the Lesser Peace, a political peace.

"In this period of its evolution the world of humanity is in danger. Every war is against the good pleasure of the Lord of mankind, for man is the edifice of God and war destroys the divine edifice. If an active, actual peace is brought about, the human world will attain to the utmost serenity and composure; wolves will be transformed into lambs, devils into angels, and terrors into divine splendors in less than the twinkling of an eye."

~ Abdul-Baha Divine Philosophy, p. 85

"Now that ye have refused the Most Great Peace, hold ye fast unto this, the Lesser Peace, that haply ye may in some degree better your own condition and that of your dependents.
O rulers of the earth! Be reconciled among yourselves, that ye may need no more armaments save in a measure to safeguard your territories and dominions. Beware lest ye disregard the counsel of the All-Knowing, the Faithful."

(Provisional Translations, Tablet to Queen Victoria)

The Baha'i Administrative Order is an order for Baha'is and much of its structure is currently developing but it does not dictate what non-Baha'is do.

"If the institutions of the Faith, God forbid, became involved in politics, the Bahá'ís would find themselves arousing antagonism instead of love. If they took one stand in one country, they would be bound to change the views of the people in other countries about the aims and purposes of the Faith. By becoming involved in political disputes, the Bahá'ís instead of changing the world or helping it, would themselves be lost and destroyed."

(Compilations, Lights of Guidance, p. 444)

The above is one reason Baha'is are non-partisan and hold no partisan offices.

I hope the future is one of equal opportunity for men and women to serve in the Baha'i religion.

At present there is a greater percentage of women in Administrative roles in the Baha'i Faith that any other church or religion including the UU, and the Quakers.

Okay, according to your word.

And yet, by virtue of their gender alone they are prohibited from participating in the UHJ. Clearly they are willing and able, so I hope future Baha'i government drops the drisciminaton.

The Baha'i Faith was the first religion to make it mandatory to educate all children including girls by spiritual law.

Change in spiritual teachings evolve by Revelation, and not by demands or preference of individuals.

I am simply responding to the thread topic about how a future Baha'i government might be set up and function. :) Obviously it's just my hope for the Baha'i religion. You know more about whether or not this is a possibility.

Which way to the woods?
Thanks for starting the thread @shunyadragon. I just now saw it. I see some type of explanation has been started but I still don't see details of what laws would be enforced or how and by whom, what role the Bahai government will have within the larger world, what purpose will they serve if not involved in politics, and a lot more questions about how this system would operate. I will be interested in reading more as the thread progresses. I'm sure the other Bahais here have information to add as well. Will there be islands of Bahai communities within other countries? Or will they have their own country where only Bahais live? If they are not involved in politics, how will representation of individual Bahais work? What are the representatives, if there are any, be doing to represent? There must be a grand plan somewhere or otherwise what is the point of sharing Bahai ideas in hopes others eventually become Bahai's?

I'm sure I will have more questions so I look forward to reading what people have to say.
