Celibacy in spiritual lifestyle

No one should be forced to be celibate for the sake of a mere religion. Not that it is any excuse, but I suspect that the RCC crazy celibacy rule could be one reason for the high rate of sexual abuse perpetrated by priests.

I wonder how many men fantasize about boys while having intercourse with their wives. Or do you think priests should be allowed to marry boys in the RCC?

Personally i am in a relationship with a woman and the last two years we have lived in celibasy because of spirituality. And no there is nothing forcing us to do so. we do it of free will. But it is not said that we will live this way for the rest of our lives. But we both find the spiiritual wisdom come more easy when we do not have any form desire for the sexual part of the relationship.

Most of those who live a monatic life will be in a celibasy and one reason is to understand how to let go of attachments to it.

Most people will be opposed to your lifestyle choice because it goes against what is popular on tv.

Sexuality can be a religious act and be seen as spiritual. Celibacy has been known to cause problems in some religions.

Exactly! To me, sex is spiritual and the mundane glitters with the sacred.
Engaging in sexual activity is not less spiritual than abstaining.

What is your understanding (not your view) on living in celibasy when living a spiritual life?

When both people in a relationship live a spiritual life, and live in celibasy, what is your view on it?

I see it (since view and understanding go together) as giving one's greatest passions up to live a higher spiritual lifestyle. It's an offer to god (or relieving one's ego of the body) to focus more on a devotional in a platonic relationship.

It's not detrimental or anything. It's a couple giving up one's physical needs in order for both spirits to commune in god (or so have you). God over flesh.

For males doing sadhana, according to Tantra-Yoga, the retention of semen is spiritually beneficial because the semen is produced with a large amount of vital energy that is given to each person in a limited amount only each month.
Vital energy is (also) needed for spiritual practices and for the well functioning of the mind.

It is also beneficial to physical health, because the vital energy keeps the organs healthy.
Losing the semen more than once a week could eventually bring in health problems.

Besides all this, the thought of sexual matters is a tamasic (crudifying) influence on the mind, bringing the mind down to the lower chakras and away from cosmic ideation (unless it is controlled in a certain way but that needs specialist training which most people lack).

To keep the mind in cosmic ideation (making the decrease in the load of karma easier), it is better to keep the mind pure (the mind should be treated as a temple).
Married people can ideate that their partner is a representation of the Supreme but for unmarried people mental and physical celibacy is spiritually best.

My understanding and my view are the same thing, because I am not using a group understanding, currently. For example I do not suppress my understanding in favor of a group. It is rare for someone to have a view that is different from their understanding. In fact the two things are so similar, that it makes it difficult to understand your question. I am not sure that I have understood you.

Celibacy is usually not something people choose but something that happens to us. In that case its probably not spiritual, because it is not a choice. Often its considered an injury, a form of suffering.

If your relationship is about giving instead of trading or taking then it is more special than a normal relationship. For example if you take care of someone who is bedridden then its special. Celibacy is potentially like that, but I don't think its the same thing. Maybe being celibate just makes us feel safer, or maybe being celibate is convenient. You might be celibate for many reasons. Some people fear intimacy, and so celibacy is not necessarily a spiritual choice. Its simply a physical state which affects our mood.

I think that in general, celibacy should be confined to monasticism, and not brought into the general populace. Yes, there are exceptions. For some it's just a natural thing, non unlike being gay. It's within the diversity of sexuality we have on this planet.
I'm not going to a monastary. :p

If a person wishes to be celibate that is their choice, but it should never be forced upon them as most people like to have a sexual relationship.,
I agree. This would also apply to people who wish to remain celibate not being forced into marriage.

I am Celibate and did that part voluntarily. It is supported in Matt 5, Matt 19:12, and Isaiah 56:4-5. I don't know of religious authorities that support it, and until recently it would get you thrown into a Psych Ward.

Not according to the gospel of Phillip.

Jesus was definitely celibate. He was a devout Jew who upheld his Father's Law. Sex outside of marriage was punishable by death.

According to Wiki..."the Gospel of Philip defends the tradition that gives Mary Magdalene special insight into Jesus' teaching, but does not support "twenty-first-century inventions concerning Mary Magdalene as Jesus' wife and mother of his offspring."

There is no mention of Jesus being married because he was not sent to Earth for that reason.
His sinless condition, should he have become a father, would have fought with the reason for his mission....to save those who were sinners. If he became a sinner, he could not have saved anyone.

I think marriage is a fortress for the well being and raising of children and is required for a stable family life as well as the continuance of our species.

But i think any marriage can also after time become celibate as the couple becomes more spiritual friends and comrades than just being physically bonded.

A spiritual bond is far stronger than a physical one which over time and with age will decline but the spiritual bond can last forever.

There is no mention of what he did in his private life, I hope he had a good, consenting sexual relationship, gay or straight. Of course the guy wasn't without fault, that is clear from the gospel accounts. For instance, by playing daft exorcism hocus pocus he frightened a herd of pigs over a cliff, there is no suggestion he paid the pig farmer compensation, for his stupidity! Jesus was a mere human just like the rest of us, created by a female and human male, the crazy stuff attributed to him was made up by the gospel writers, imo.

There is very little known about Jesus from age 8 to 30,so we have not much to go on if he was married with kids or not. But most likely Jesus would undergo spiritual training called Cultivation to enlighten to the truth that he was teaching.

For those who not believe in the gosple can argue as much they want of course, but what is the need of the argument? It will only lead to suffering to be "angry" or irritated about how he lived or did not live.
Those who are Christian will follow the bible and react to the world thru the teaching from the bible. Nothing wrong with that

The idea he Jesus was sent to earth to save people was created by the gospel writers, imo.

You don't know the guy was celibate, you wish to believe that to be true. He could have been married for all we know, the gospel writers don't mention his private life. It would have been most unusual for a man of his age to be unmarried, and if that had been the case they might have drawn that to public attention, which they didn't.

Jesus was most likely undergoing traning or cultivation toward enlightenment so he could teach a true path for the followers. if you do not want to belive this that is of course ok too

That's doubtful to me. Remember how he astonished the Rabbis in the Temple. Despite the fact that I don't really support lots of what happens in Christianity, I am still open to the idea that he was born of a Virgin, and would not be surprised if God had "educated him" before his birth. We keep trying to limit what God does, and in doing that our true natures are revealed. We think ourselves to be better than God when we do that.

Someone says that God is Flesh and Blood. I say that God, being God can do as he wishes. Muslims say that God is a spirit, and does not procreate. What of the God that Moses (Musa) met and was taught by?
