Still smarting from an encounter I had last night on this forum. Trying to make sense of it.

As I mull this over, I've run into people from lots of different belief systems that have been abusive and unkind. Though, most people, even Atheists tend to be at least civil.

Perhaps it is unfair to blame a particular belief system, because the percentage of jerks in humanity is evenly spread?

Some are civil yes, you are definately one of them. I like you. But some atheists on here are terrible.

Simply put, people feel "entitled" because they believe what they say is ultimately right and it grants them the power to demonize another religion or its adherents or even the collective people themselves. But don't get it twisted I've met some horrible atheist both on here and offline.

When I am offended, I look inward rather than outward. What people say or do is a projection of themselves...a projection of their own reality. Should I let their reality become my reality? Should I take what I say personally?

I then realize that no one holds such power over me. I refuse to punish myself for self-judgment, so why should I allow others to punish me through their judgments?

Then I think...if I don't like being judged, maybe others don't either.

So perhaps it's just unfair to blame.

I find that avoiding them (mostly) makes this forum more fun.

A theory....
Such people tend to have a strong & rigid sense that they have
The Truth, & that anyone who disagrees is wrong....a challenger
to what is right & good. Angry intolerance ensues.
It could be any worldview....political affiliation, economics, religion.
Even being on the same side cannot inoculate one against rage.

Today is not perfect, as there is selfishness roaming..I appreciate them(jerks) because it makes me appreciate who I am not! Life is a lesson weather u learn from it or don’t.

Even Atheists? lol as if it takes a god to be nice? How would you ever know nice unless you knew mean? One can't exist without the other. Two sides of the same coin.

Maybe that is the foundation of humanity. Aside from that if a person can set aside their beliefs and just listen to what others have to say there could be a possibility to the questions asked. As a person who has had several different interventions with different people I do agree that Atheism showed the least aggression.

It's hard to tell sometimes the difference between civil and non-civil especially in debates and some discussions.

I tend to think jerks are those who attack the believer rather than the belief.

It always helps none the less to have a teflon personality , and the best way to get it is by jumping into the fire like steel in a forge.

Try not to let it get you down. We humans are full of faults and imperfections. But there is good in each one of us too.

Sorry, I don't think so.

But there are interesting phenomena that we should be aware of. I love psychology, anthropology and statistics, because those areas went a long way towards explaining me what to expect of people and why.

One thing to keep in mind is that what is true is not necessarily representative. In statistics, we would call that the relevance of the sample selection. In human sciences, we would note that people define themselves as much as by rebellion against expectations as they do by adherence to a group.

By the way, not all religious folk believe children go to hell, let alone forever.

Yeah well, works both way and more, my children, my parents and i have been threatened by with eternal torture in hell by christians. Not including the many, many times i have been verbally abused and patronised by Christians, I have bee a victim of a bombing perpetrated by christians. Some

So debate approaches... You get what you earn.

Btw, it doesnt matter if its all, in the same way its not all atheist you dont like. It only takes one to continue the disrespect and hatred.
