People don't stop him getting a foot in the door anymore...they let him camp in their living rooms by allowing him into their homes via TV and the Internet.

He has his own FaceBook page ya know.....
Ok, so you weren’t specifically referring to Brickjectivity, just people in general, got it.

Well, he is “misleading the entire inhabited Earth”! Revelation 12:9

Exodus 23:13 "“Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips."

So...why do JW's continue to use the word 'Thursday' when everybody knows its named after a pagan god? Every time I hear a JW pronounce the word Thursday, aren't they breaking this commandment? Its is befuddling.

I think all the days are Pagan days, if I'm not mistaken? In U.S. we have so much Paganism that it would be hard for JW to live here without excusing one thing or another in regards to what they believe in. I know my great aunt before she died lived in Alabama out in the boondocks. She had no electrics because she wanted to be like christ. Had her own king james bible with her as she rocked in her chair telling me about the Lord.

I guess one would have to do something like that to really get far from paganism.

The other names of the week too
Wednesday- Wotan
Friday-Freya
Saturday- Saturn
Indeed, but you've left out Tiw's Day.

So they are all, apart from Sun Day and Moon Day named after N European gods. (Oops I see Dianaiad has got there before me.)

I think that's why the Quakers went to 'first day, second day, etc."

Problems arrise in different.countries where the week starts on different days.
International standard ISO 8601 tells us day 1 is Monday, day 7 is Sunday.
In US, Canada, Japan and some other countries day 1 is Sunday.

Which is fine if you have little to do with the world. Try making an appointment using that system. We live in the world, but try not to be part of the awful bits of it.
Two approaches:

- "do you have any openings for the 12th of the month?"

- "do you have any openings for Second Day next week? Oh - you don't know what I mean by 'Second Day?' Let me tell you..."

Jesus didn't confine himself away from others but offered his truth to all. His apostles didn't either. They went out to the Gentiles to preach.
And you can't preach without words like "Wednesday?"

Exodus 23:13 "“Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips."

Thanks for the verse, this is a great verse.

The Christian priest in my Church many times spoke negative about Buddha, Allah ...(anything not Christian in his opinion).
I told him "Jesus says do not judge etc". And I said "you can praise Jesus into Heavens, that's fine. Just do not belittle. I feel this is wrong".

I feel the Bible better than most priests preach the Bible. Good to have a Bible verse to make my point, next time

Ahm, you know Tuesday is named for the Anglo-Saxon war god Tiw?
Wednesday is named for the god Woden / Wotan / Odin?
Thursday is named for the god Thor?
Friday is named for the goddess Friga / Freya?
Saturday is named for the Roman god Saturn?
All the other planets are strictly out of bounds?
And that raised-edge metal plate thing in the kitchen with a handle is a Pan?

But actually, I don't understand the reason for the command. If I'm the only real god, then the other gods are necessarily fictional ─ there's no important difference between mentioning Marduk and Aphrodite and Horus, and mentioning Superman and Catwoman and Donald Duck.

We had nothing to do with naming the days of the week, or the months either. It was actually Pope Gregory we have to thank for that. Good Christian that he was.....

We hardly "invoke" other gods by speaking about a day named after them.....seriously? :p

Is it necessary that you always have to blame my religion to justify yours?

It kind of is.

The JWs, like a few other denominations, have put themselves forward as the restoration of the "true" church after the old church went astray. It's a fundamental part of their brand.

Well, we Catholics dont sit there and rag on Jews, mocking their practices, and insulting their clergy. We actually show respect. It just shows how cultish and spiritually dead JW is.

Anyone whose religion is based on contempt for another religion, is practicing a faith tainted with evil.

It is in Exodus. Technically the question only applies to Jehova's Witnesses and others who follow commands like this one verbatim. I can't say for sure what it means to Jews and Roman Catholics, but it may not be persuasive.

But actually, I don't understand the reason for the command. If I'm the only real god, then the other gods are necessarily fictional ─ there's no important difference between mentioning Marduk and Aphrodite and Horus, and mentioning Superman and Catwoman and Donald Duck.
Putting it into a historical and Jewish context would probably make the question irrelevant, so we are not talking about the actual meaning of the Bible verse. We are only asking about why JW's don't obey it verbatim. It is a question for Jehova's Witnesses not an explanation of the verse.

Some things, we just have to go along with....like time off work for Christmas. It’s just the way the world is geared for now, we just go along with it.

Jesus replied, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? (Matthew 15:3)

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

See how easy it is to point fingers ?

I don't understand how Witnesses chastise "Christendom" for celebrating the pagan god Saturn on Christmas but can't seem to chastise themselves for celebrating Thor on Thursday.

The fact is, Christians no more celebrate Saturn on Christmas than Witnesses celebrate Thor on Thursdays. It's like Witnesses have 20-20 vision when looking at "Christendom" but have the eyesight of Ray Charles when looking at themselves.

It was probably written at a time of henotheistic consolidation, so they sought to exclude real things and not just things that don't exist.

I gotta say that I have to admire a group of people who look at this stuff, follow the logic of avoiding pagan traditions and gods and such, and stick to their opinions.

I don't agree with them, of course, but I have to admire them for this.
There is a passage in Romans that speaks exactly to this and their faith that God cares about this stuff.

Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
So informing their congregations that God cares about them not celebrating Christmas because it has "pagan" origins in their minds, might normally indicate they are simply following what has meaning to them, but according to Paul, God doesn't care. If it legitimately offends them in some way, such as growing up in a culture which never ate pork, then they should avoid it.

But my argument against this would be it never was an offense until one of their preachers told them it was. It's a manufactured "problem" in order to make them distinctly different than other churches, to set themselves apart, to divide themselves from other Christians. This is not in the spirit of what Paul is talking about. It's political. It's a manufactured "sin", in order to sell their "cure".
