Woman calls JetBlue staff member "rapist" and threatens she has a gun

"A woman scheduled to fly JetBlue on Sunday ended up being restrained by police at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after having an outburst at the gate.

According to a viral video on Instagram, the unnamed female passenger was seemingly one of many who were held at the airport for 10 hours after technical issues forced the airline to delay the flight while waiting for another aircraft. However, representatives from JetBlue tell Yahoo Lifestyle, “The customer in the viral video was scheduled on a flight which did not experience any major delays.” Instead, she was denied boarding from another aircraft because she was intoxicated.

“On January 6, crew members at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport requested assistance from local law enforcement after a customer was denied boarding for indications of intoxication and became disruptive,” a spokesperson from JetBlue Corporate Communications says.

The resulting hysteria was caught on camera where the woman was heard screaming at staff and seen hoisting herself up onto the JetBlue counter.

“Who does that to a woman like me?” she screamed, before continuing to yell, “Get me out of here.”

It became even worse when she called the male staff member a “rapist” and threatened that she had a gun on her, claiming that she was homeless. Moments later, she grabbed her bag and walked off while other passengers whispered about her threats.

A second video then shows the woman being arrested by local law enforcement. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office didn’t immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. However, the man behind the Instagram post says that it was “the end of chaos.”

“I did this guys job for 4 years with that exact airline,” someone commented on the video, referencing the staff member who was screamed at. “This is why I longer do that job.”

The video is quite clear. Whatever she was going through at that moment, it wasn't pretty.

It is almost certainly for the best that she was detained at that time, if only so that she would not harm herself or someone else.

In some ways it is even more disturbing to see the scene because she is not physically imposing, yet her attitude certainly is scary.

They said she was intoxicated. Was that the reason for her foul attitude? Perhaps she is going through something very painful and got drunk to ease the pain? At any rate, I hope that the police are kind to her.

I don’t buy this as evidence of a specifically current alcohol problem. The new aspect of this story isn’t a drunk passenger trying to board a plane but that it is filmed, posted to the internet and instantly propagated around the world.

No idea. She was deeply distressed, but I do not know whether she was intoxicated as such.

Well, at least they honored her request to "get me out of here."

Some of the comments to the video were a bit off. Several people were wondering if she was single.

Another commenter thought that airports shouldn't have bars. I can see his point, although it's not clear if she was actually drunk or on some other drug.

This isn't something that only airlines have to deal with. Any business which has to deal with the public is going to get their share of insane, rage-filled customers. I've seen videos of people going crazy because they can't get their Chicken McNuggets. I saw one recently where a woman was in Taco Bell and thought she was in Burger King. She kept asking for french fries, when they don't have french fries on the menu.

Others were commenting on the second part of the video where they told the guy "no photography." They thought he had the right to photograph anything in public.

Apparently you didn’t read the story.
Well, Donald's not obviously drunk, and the lady didn't tweet, but the rest is a pretty good fit ─ loud public trantrum, false accusations, blaming others, failure to acknowledge personal responsibility, major threats, escalated responses, major disruptions, refusal to behave in an orderly fashion ...

I think any outrageous behavior that creates a distraction of this kind has to be looked at as a psychiatric/drug-alcohol problem.
