God as a Song

What song do you feel most closely echoes your feelings on God? I’d say Master of Puppets by Metallica. Great song, not so great God.

I think the Psalms which are spoken in the first person singular that can be interpreted as Jesus singing. Examples are Psalm 88 (the darkest of Psalms and appropriate to Jesus death) and 89 about the death of Christ also looking forward to a resurrection 'I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever'

They are also the 2nd and 3rd longest Psalms in the book

The Super Epic Psalms book 3 (Psalms 78 and 89, the 2nd and 3rd long…

MetallicHue asked for actual SONGS, not written mythology verses.

I Got Plenty O' Nuttin'
Song by Ella Fitzgerald

I got plenty of nothing
And nothing's plenty for me
I got no god - got no mule
I got no misery

Folks with plenty of plenty
They've got a lock on the door
Afraid somebody's gonna rob 'em
While there out (a) making more - what for
I got no lock on the door - that's no way to be
They can steal the rug from the floor - that's OK with me
'Cause the things that I prize - like the stars in the skies - are all free
I got plenty of nothing
And nothing's plenty for me
I got my gal - got my song
(I) Got the sky the whole day long
- Got my gal - got my love - got my song

"'Master of Puppets' deals pretty much with drugs. How things get switched around, instead of you controlling what you're taking and doing it's drugs controlling you." - James Hetfield, Thrasher magazine

I like to listen to the darker/sinister songs, not because it necessarily relates to my personal life, because through the channeling of it I can gain insight and perspective from it so I can better relate to those effected by the controlling issues found in others. If we can understand what's lacking, we can improve things from that point.

Chris Cornell's album 'Euphoria Morning' is another great example to gain insight and perspective from — dealing with deepening issues of drugs and depression.

Loving God and my neighbor as myself.

By your own choice I assume you mean popular songs rather than religious songs. Hmmm.

Then it would have to be a love song, like how Song of Songs imitates Israel's relationship to God. I would say, "Still the One," by Shania Twain. My religious life has been rocky, but somehow I have always stuck with God -- who'd have thought? :)
