My son and I were discussing a certain person, a friend of his. Sometimes this young man's motives and behaviour were questionable. But my son said, "With Moe (just as an example, not insulting all the Moes of the world) it's always about Moe.
Anyways, I found it insightful, and helped me to understand the Moes of the world, and there are quite a few of them. The classical movie scene on a first date comes to mind, where one of the people only talks about themselves, hardly noticing the date. I had several parent teacher interviews over the years, where I actually said to the parent, "hey, this interview isn't about you, it's about ______ (the kid).
I've also observed certain groups of people who seem to have ethnocentricity at the forefront. For example, 'with Canadians, it's always about Canadians'.
Any insights, firstly on why, and secondly, what to say to such people to attempt to get them beyond themselves, ot their religio-ethnicity?
