Revelations 13

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
"Revelations 13: And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name."

Does this sound like it could be a reference to a nuclear ballistic missile submarine (the beast coming from the sea) armed with MIRV missiles (the multiple heads with multiple horns)?

Probably not an original thought, but it occurred to me this evening while listening to a reading.

Calling a missile "peacekeeper" is sort of blasphemous too. And it's written right on each head.

IMHO much of the book of Revelation has taken place and the beast of Revelation 13 can be linked to the beast in Daniel 7:19-26. It’s an empire that exemplified the corruption of religion established 666 years after the birth of Christ. It is unrelated to ballistic missiles, but everyone has their theories.

I'm not generally of the believe that Revelation is about future events, but the image of a huge nuclear missile sub coming out of the sea, and how an ancient person would interpret such a vision came to me as I was listening, likewise how an ancient would try to describe multi-warhead missiles coming from it. Such a thing's relevance to the Apocalypse would be obvious, any way.

Hey, Revelation is written in extremely ambiguous language, and there's no clear rule on what's meant to be taken as literal, as allegory, as metaphor, or as coded language. Rev. 13 could pretty much be about anything, really, but I just flashed on the alignment of those 3 qualities of that passage tonight and wondered if any one else could see my point. I'm not claiming that the passage absolutely IS about nuclear submarines or their missiles, just that the plausibility of the explanation had a ring to it.

The book of Revelation is without doubt the most difficult of all New Testament books. Like an exegesis of Daniel 11:1-31 the events described could only be assigned after Christ had come. His Revelation unsealed this prophetic book (Matthew 24:15-16) that was sealed until the end times.

If the beast is the same as in Daniel 7:20 then like the three earlier beasts (Babylonians, Medo-Persians, GrecoRoman) it represents another empire that occupied the Holy land. It’s either the Roman Empire or most likely the Islamic Caliphate who occupied Palestine from the 7th to 20th centuries.

That being said, nuclear weapons remains perhaps the greatest threat to humanity.

And a nuclear submarine could be described as an instrument of empire.

Yes, but which empire?

I think Armageddon began with WWI. It could be argued we're still in it. Maybe your submarine with the nuclear warheads will be next unfolding apocalypse.

I'm in New Zealand so I don't think anyone will want to nuke us. Australia on the other hand.....o_O

New Zealand doesn't exist. That's why it isn't mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

Radiation could be "blasphemous", maybe? Or the sheer destructive power? Numerous metaphors seem to fit the scenario. The problem is it could be all of them or none of them, and there's no definitive way to tell.
