Is witchcraft a faith that deserves respect?

Nevertheless, it was a phrase I borrowed from an Italian anthropologist, Cecilia Gatto Trocchi with whom I identify a lot. She's a secularist like me. A rationalist like me. A fan of French Enlightenment like me.

Well...she basically says that certain beliefs, since Enlightenment took place, don't deserve respect..and tolerating them is an insult to the values of the European Civilization.

That is kind of the problem. There is this idea that all beliefs need respect even if their really wrong. The hypocrites that believe this will easily say pedophilia is a wrong belief but all other beliefs are to be respected. Bring up more examples of wrong beliefs and they will keep changing the goal posts. At some point people need to embrace that non-scientific and personal beliefs are fine but don't argue they're a protected right. Some might warrant criticism and scorn. Magic or Magick doesn't exist anymore then the astral plane or Odin. (Except Odin is pretty awesome in the movies... except when Loki was playing him...)

Also people don't know their history. Witches used to be put to death and now we are like fine be a witch or a warlock and cast your spells and do your rituals and pretend to be whatever you want. We don't care. It's just you roleplaying some belief system. Don't long for the old days where people took these reindeer games seriously. They were stupid. Be who you want to be but If I need to send a rocket to the moon or mars I'm going to look to science and not you for some protection and rabbit fast spell.

Indeed...believing in witchcraft kinda justifies the murderers of the Holy Inquisition and the Salem witch trials...because they believed in that stuff too, so there was no difference between perpetrator and victim

You mean like Wicca and such? Sure, why not. It's certainly less harmful than some other religions. I don't see what the problem is. Are witches somehow harming or society with their beliefs? If not, why target them for scorn or discrimination?

I don't think anyone is hanging witches anymore. (Well looked that up and apparently some countries still do that, but not here) No one wants to target them with scorn or discrimination for their beliefs. You can believe the clouds are marshmallows and the moon is made of cheese. The big problem is when a fantasy belief is debunked by modern science and the believers try to hold up their belief as something equal to science. In my example a spell of protection and speed on a craft designed to carry you to the moon as opposed to a team of engineers.

Don't know if your serious. They did believe in witchcraft and killed the witches. Modern people dont believe in witchcraft and dont care what you do. And I noticed your a believer in free will. I don't think thats possible and discussed it recently in a thread called freewill revisited. You might find it interesting. (And I might be completely wrong)

In Romance languages the terms (sorcellerie, stregoneria, brujerìa, bruxaria) have all negative connotations.

Semantically the English language dignifies the term with the suffix craft

Does it deserve less than any other faith, it has some similarities with the church, ceremony and incantations.

- If you confess, I'll be clement
- All right, I admit it...I confess I am a witch.
- Good. She will be burnt at the stakes in Campo de Fiori.
- What? You said you'd be clement.
- In fact tomorrow I will be elected Pope Clemens X
- Ba*tard!
