Nice Guy, This Christian God

As Christians tell their story, god has heaven and hell waiting for us after we die. Which one we end up in depends either on our works (the Catholic belief) or the grace of god (the Protestant belief). Plus, both require accepting Jesus Christ as one's savior, which essentially consists of coming to god/Jesus to be saved, repenting, having faith, and being baptized.

Do all these things and there's a good chance you'll avoid hell and end up in heaven, an exceedingly more desirable place to spend eternity---One does have to question god's so called goodness when he finds it fitting to make a person suffer for all eternity for what one had only the briefest of time in which to prove himself, but that's a whole other issue.

What interests me here is another aspect of god's decision making: its fairness.

Q. 1) What of those who have never heard of god's Get Out Of Hell Free card? Do they get to go to heaven?

Because the rules stipulate that to avoid hell and gain entrance into heaven one must accept Jesus Christ as one's lord and savior, not getting the message doesn't count as an excuse. If one could get into heaven without getting the message, then the message couldn't be that important. In fact, one would be better off having never heard of the message. Hearing the message just puts one in jeopardy of screwing it up. In this case ignorance would be a great excuse. But God says it doesn't work that way, which means that millions upon millions of people are unwittingly destined for hell because of their ignorance. I'm aware that some Christians have made up stories about how Jesus or god will judge these ignorant people after they die, deciding who among them deserve heaven, but they're just stories, or at best, an excruciating twisting of scriptures.

Q. 2) What of those who've heard of god's Get Out Of Hell Free card but don't take it?

This, I believe, comes down to a matter of remaining unconvinced it has any merit.

Those of the Buddhist, Hindu, and Shinto religions, and many others feel Christianity simply hasn't proven its point, which is; that there's a hell that can only be avoided and a heaven that can only be attained by taking Jesus Christ as one's lord and savior. The same is true of the atheists, agnostics, and everyone else who rejects the Christian claim. And whose fault is this? If you're a Christian ask yourself: after having read about other religions why haven't you abandoned Christianity and adopted one of them? Could it be they've failed to convince you? And whose fault would that be? Yours? I'm sure you'd say the fault lies with the particular religion. The same holds true for everyone who rejects Christianity, yet god implies that such people are to be blamed for his preacher's inability to convince the non-believer, ergo, the non-believer must suffer. Sound fair? Sure doesn't to me. Unfortunately, the incompetent preachers who've bombarded the non-believer with unconvincing reasons to accept Jesus simply didn't do their job. Yet god holds him responsible for his preacher's failure. And the consequence? Hell

Sound like a fair and loving decision to you?

Well, first of all the Bible never says anyone goes to Heaven and Hell is a place where the wicked are destroyed, not tortured forever. All this is part of the false religious beliefs started by Satan and believed by most churches that call themselves Christian but really do not follow the teachings of Christ.

No. It sounds like someone so incompetent that it cannot manage to be clear, concise or convincing.

And being incompetent, it cannot control it's own rage, and creates a custom, infinite torture-pit to cover up it's own failures.

Sadly, you cannot support that without twisting the words to the exact opposite of what is written.

But nice try.

Looks like yet another boring thread ignoring the diversity in Christian thinking/theology regarding hell. So how's the weather out your way?

Amazingly nice and sunny. Nice days are lasting later and later in the season here in the Pacific Northwest. One of the few good things about AGW. And you?

It's turning into a rather lovely fall here in Colorado. The trees just started turning about a week ago, although they turned color much earlier up in the mountains.

What nonsense.

Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

and Hell is a place where the wicked are destroyed, not tortured forever.
Matthew 25:44-46
44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Why wait? My present situation may be the best indication of what my future situation will be, more or less.
Sound like a fair and loving decision to you?
Not in the least. But then a rapid review of any belief system will likely not reveal whether its subtleties are consistent or inconsistent - including atheism.

Some of them will, some of them won't. Paul figured it out somewhere in Romans. For when Gentiles which have no law do by nature the things of the law, these, having no law, are a law unto themselves. They are a law unto themselves. Law Law Law Law Lola. God's got them covered with all the people living prior to Christ's first Visitation. Christ will judge the quick and the dead and write their names into the book of life. They're safe. The judgement of the dead, the cleansing of the sanctuary, began in 1844. None of the good ones will slip through His righteous right hand. The Guy upstairs knows what He's doing.

"since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Nobody goes to hell. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. They are going to be annihilated. They will be ashes under the feet of the righteous. God is not going to torture people for infinity future for whatever they did during their blink of an eye time here. The people that think that, can't imagine infinity.

No such thing. It's not possible. His sheep WILL hear His voice. If you believe in Jesus, you're in. It's the ultimate litmus test that determines salvation. It means that you were picked by the Father from BEFORE the foundation of the universe. He will lose NONE that the Father has given Him.

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”

Actually, it sounds like a better deal than i deserve.

You are always looking at the teachings of modern day Christianity and then trying to use the Bible to support that without any consideration where those teachings actually come from. The trouble with this is that the two don't match up and the questions you pose aren't addressed properly. I've told you this numerous times but you ignore it.

Well. There you have it!

The bible's god has long since Left The Building, and never bothered to release an Updated Bible 2.0.

No WONDER Christianity has 45,000 different and conflicting brands!

Only because Christians still espouse those points I brought up, AND use the Bible to support them. That you've gone somewhere else with Christianity is of no interest to me.

Well, what questions can you ask? If I've gone somewhere else with Christianity only suggests that you have to ask me questions just as I have to ask you questions.

You are always on about hell. What is hell? According to Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, the Bible, the word itself, where it comes from, the original words translated as hell, etc.

What goes to hell? The body or the soul?

You won't address any of these because you have a one track mind when it comes to Christianity.

What is heaven? What is the kingdom of heaven? How do they differ? Who goes to heaven? Who stays on earth? What about resurrection? Why would God put us here on earth only to go to heaven or hell? Does this cycle of earth then heaven or hell go on forever? Does the Earth, according to the Bible. Does hell? Death?

Nothing you say, which is just a simple criticism of modern day apostate Christendom, addresses any of these questions because your problem, the chip on your shoulder which blinds you, is with Christianity.

As Christians tell their story, god has heaven and hell waiting for us after we die.

That's a vague summation of some modern day Christian theology. It isn't supported by the Bible. Hell is the grave, to say the least of that summation, not the pagan influenced literal torture of the immortal soul.

Which one we end up in depends either on our works (the Catholic belief) or the grace of god (the Protestant belief). Plus, both require accepting Jesus Christ as one's savior, which essentially consists of coming to god/Jesus to be saved, repenting, having faith, and being baptized.

We all go to hell. Since we all die. There is no moral distinction in hell. Jesus went to hell, God is, in effect in hell.

Yes it is, because it's nonsense. Romans 6:7 says one is acquitted of all sin upon death. No further punishment needed. Acts of the apostles 24:15 says there will be a resurrection of the unrighteous as well as the righteous.

What interests me here is another aspect of god's decision making: its fairness.

Well, first of all, the question of those who've never heard are the ones Acts of the apostles 24:15, given above, is referring to. Second, regarding judging, we judge ourselves now. You, for example, I take it, reject God. In ignorance or knowledge available to you which is apparent by your use of it here. The believers likewise do the same. The two of them don't need to be judged.

The people you mention in the preacher / believer scenario are responsible for their own choice, they choose the preacher over God.

Sound like a fair and loving decision to you?.

Your version doesn't even make sense. You miss the entire point of the Bible.

Why couldn't a nearly omnipotent and highly benevolent God just simply reincarnate persons, who've never got a fair chance to accept/reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, until they've become somebody who has had a fair opportunity to accept/reject Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior?

Wouldn't that be a good solution for resolving issues such as what happens to the souls of dead babies or what happens to people who live in remote parts of the world where the Word of Jesus Christ has never been preached?

People already stand condemned not having loved or returned thanks as they should.
The offer of salvation is a mercy and not an obligation of God. God owes justice not mercy.

Psalm 49
(select verses)
Hear this, all peoples!
Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
2 both low and high,
rich and poor together!
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom;
the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
4 I will incline my ear to a proverb;
I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.

7 Truly no man can ransom another,
or give to God qthe price of his life,
8 for the ransom of their life is costly
and can never suffice,
9 that he should live on forever
and never see the pit.

12 Man in his pomp will not remain;
ahe is like the beasts that perish.

15 But God will fransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will greceive me. Selah
