Czech Republic Catholic Church Monsignor Petr Piťha Goes Bonkers

"One of the leaders of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic is Monsignor Petr Piťha, a former Education Minister and a man whom Pope Francis declared Chaplain of His Holiness in 2015. He’s not a nobody.

On September 28, the feast day of St. Wenceslas and a national holiday, Piťha spoke at the Cathedral of St. Vitus, St. Adalbert and St. Wenceslas and delivered a hyperbolic screed (in Czech) about what would happen in the country if religious conservatives caved in to the supposed homosexual agenda.

He was specifically referring to the ratification of the “Istanbul Convention,” a document signed by 46 countries and the European Union that calls for the protection of women, condemns “honor” killings, and prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Czech Republic, already late to the party, signed the Convention in 2016 (five years after it was first adopted), but it has yet to be ratified and put into effect.

Piťha doesn’t want to see that happen because of what he claims are the natural consequences of tolerating LGBTQ rights.

Here’s a rough translation of what he said.

• Your families will be torn apart. If you tell your children men and women are not the same, that’s enough of an excuse to separate you from them.

• They will take your children away, and they won’t tell you where they are, where they were sold, or where they are prisoners. All it will take is a single false accusation.

• You will no longer be able to determine the sex of your newborn baby by looking at its genitals.

• Because your children will decide their own sex, you won’t even be allowed to give them names.

• If there’s a disagreement between parents and children, the adults will be deported to a concentration camp where they could be executed.

• Homosexuals will be declared a superior ruling class. Everyone else will be part of the inferior working class with no freedom of speech.

• People will be inferior to animals that reproduce sexually since the law won’t apply to cats, frogs, or insects."

The entire Slavic world (some more, some less), unfortunately, doesn't intend to give LGBT people rights...

I don't know if I trust the source. It might be biased. ;)

Question from ignorance (on my part).
The Czech Republic has extremely low rates of religiosity. While I understand that this guy is not a nobody in terms of the Church hierarchy, is he influential in the Czech Republic?
Does anyone know?

Doubtful. Since Catholics make up only 1/10th of the population. So, I'm not a mathemetician by any means, but I'm thinking 90% are non-Catholic?

...Actually, there is a very strong anti-Catholic trend in the Czech Republic... Which leads me to question the credibility of the article in the OP even more.

I researched friendly atheist the urban dictionary was a real ***** about it:

"Much of the Friendly Atheist's readerbase consist of a bunch of sheep who cannot think for themselves. They circle jerk in every article written by Hemant, making generalizations about religious people and generally proving their down-right arrogance and closed-mindedness (which Hemant plays wilful ignorance to, pretending that the entire atheist community is a rational bunch when the reality is the complete opposite).

Hemant Mehta once said that "no atheist ever says God doesn't exist" proving his ignorance and dishonesty to the world. Simply Googling the aforementioned statement will yield many results from atheists stating this, there are atheist books which state this. Hermant himself stated this once saying that God "just isn't there."

This is ironic since atheists profess to be free-thinkers but make absolute statements like this which require empirical evidence (or omniscience to know all there is to know).

To date, no atheist has been able to provide any evidence to support their belief that "God doesn't exist" and therefore any atheist making this claim is simply being idiotic."

Sounds like he should Czech his privilege. Jus' sayin'...

Aside from that it is heartwarming to see members of the church trying to remain relevant in the modern world.

I agree.

When the congregation are passing round the collection plate do you think he'll accept Czechs?
