Doctor Who Season 13

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Doctor Who was written about an alien. An alien that happens to be a regenerating species. Not just regenerating, but can regenerate into male or female. In all honesty, to go the full amount of regenerations being only male the entire time is far more unbelievable given the premise of the species than having the character finally portrayed as female. And it was a gradual progression. I mean, they did give us Missy a while ago. There were so many things that, when looking back, built up to this point. There's nothing SJW about this. It's a natural, if slow, progression of a storyline.
I really have nothing against women in roles. I see what you're saying now.

I'm so used to Doctor Who being a man all the time it just broke the immersion, but I can get used to it as long as it can fit in with the story. Incidentally I think Jodi is a good pic. And Incredibly talented actress.

I kind of read into it sort of like a Star Trek series where people are trying to change Captain Kirk into a woman or Captain Picard into a woman.

Not like that has actually happened or people had intentions of doing so, I was just using Star Trek as a hypothetical example.

Something like putting Captain Kate Janeway as another individual lead character in the same Star Trek universe was awesome as the captain of starship Voyager. She's one of my favorites.

I'm mostly familiar with the old Doctor Who's on television. I never really read any of the books but putting it the way you said is definitely palatable and retains the immersion.

Nowhere man is red face now. I think I'll make some popcorn and enjoy the episode myself since you set me straight on a few things about Doctor Who that I probably should have known.

New writer. Former head writer for Torchwood and has dabbled in Who before. His turn for a crack at it.
I haven't seen the premiere episode yet, but if the writer is from Torchwood, that would explain the darkness. Torchwood was a much darker series than Dr. Who.

I'd love to hear what you think after giving it a chance and looking at it with fresh eyes. Let me know how the viewing went.

Some of the earlier Who, the original seasons, had a darker vibe to the show. I've seen some compare the general tone to the Baker era. that is, of course, assuming that the tone of the first episode is going to be maintained in general and it wasn't just a one off thing.

I'm not big for women in the role of Doctor Who. Doctor Who was written for a man.

Now if it was a woman in the Doctor Who universe acting a role of a different person in the same capacity as Doctor Who, a female equivalent, I would be giving it much much higher marks.

Screw these sjw episodes. Get woke, go broke.
Her name was Donna, and she was the most annoying thing ever.
On Netflix people have to wait for a year.
It hasn't been on Netflix in awhile.

I'm still crying over David Tenant no longer being the Doctor, have only watched about half of 11, and none of 12.
It was like Smith showed up and to me the Doctor has been dead ever since. 10 was definitely "my Doctor."

I recall that, but it has been so long since I have seen some of those older episodes from the Baker era. He is the Doctor I first started watching years ago. When I had Netflix, I started watching the episodes with the First Doctor, but didn't get too far into it, when I cancelled my Netflix account. They were actually pretty good considering the age.

I thought the premiere was excellent myself. I thought Jodie embodied the Doctor quite well and the basic storytelling hearkened back to the old series with it being darker in general. She's quirky, brilliant, brave and scatterbrained (the Doctor through and though) and faces a darker Who universe than we've seen for a while. At least if they continue with the feeling of the first episode.
I'm watching the Kerblam (#7)

*commences fightin' words.* Donna is my favorite companion of the revival by far. It was really nice to have an older woman, and one who did not embroiled in a poorly written love triangle with the doctor for goddamn once. Rose Tyler had all the personality of particle board painted with 'vaguely romantic angst.'

There are also a couple of loose ends. There's the doctor's clone flying about somewhere and being totally ignored by the series, and there's still the immortals Clara Oswald and Me with a tardis, also totally ignored by the series.

I enjoyed this season. The best shows I think were: the one with the Pting, the one with the Ghost Monument, Kerblam and that last one. It needs criticism though.

I did not like the show about witch dunking, despite stellar acting. The Crucible had been done too often and felt like a filler. It was as if Doctor Who did another version of A Christmas Carol.

The spider episode was all wrong and should have been done more like Charlotte's Web. The doctor had a forced appreciation for the spiders, and I just couldn't get on board. The whole time my mind was shouting "Squish them! They are not cute. They are not worth saving." Most people hate squishing spiders, but we do it. Through predation they force other bugs to evolve. If they evolve larger brains its all the more reason to kill them as quickly as possible.

The doctor, Jody, is a good doctor. I do not like the wardrobe which is too much like previous doctors. They did not give Jody a chance to be someone new nor female. The audience took all the risks this season, and the show took none. She never wore a dress, and why was nobody kissed? She never once seemed moved by anything except morality even though she had two flippin hearts not just one. Too inhuman. Maybe that sounds odd, but the audience is supposed to feel like we are part of the show, and we are humans. A truly female doctor would have at least thought somebody was cute, but this one had their feelings cut out.

Overall pretty fun season. I loved a lot of things about it and deeply enjoyed criticizing it, too. I was worried that the loss of Moffat would be too much, but I was wrong. This set of writers can make it work if they will just juice things up a little.
