Burning at the stake, Gibbetting, and General Meanness.

So, today, in relatively civilized populations, we would never consider burning someone we don't agree with at the Stake. Around the 15th Century the English, and French were doing it, over the Trinity, I think. Oh, then we hanged or burned some women in Salem, Ma because we thought they were witches.

Did the remembered horror of our deeds make that unsuitable today? Of course, we no longer burn folks, we simply psychologically torture them. Then of course there is Assad dropping barrels of chemicals, and of course ISIS raping and drowning ...

I apologize because I did not do just lots of research on this, and I'm goin to bed.

Witch burnings have been revived in Kenya and Tanzania, instigated by the Christian missionaries. There are many such horrific incidents of mass hysteria caught on tape like this one:

Some countries today have rather brutal means of keeping people under
control, ie Saudi Arabia. But there's often an expectation from the general
public about the need for "strong men", ie Russia, China, Venezuela,
Philippines etc..
And... many of these communities point a finger at the nihilistic, narcissist
and socially broken West as a warning of how not to run a society.
We may decry the stoning of a woman for adultery, they might decry our own
society where women have more lovers than children, and married couples
are a minority.
We need to see things from their POV before judging them.
