His Eminence, The Pope.

The Papacy (as absolute monarchy and centralized state) was created because, after the Fall of the Western Roman Empire there was a huge power void, and since Italy was restlessly invaded by foreign peoples, a strong political figure was needed.
Across 1500 years of existence , the power was contended among the most boorish families of the Roman aristocracy, until Rome was occupied and taken by the Italian army. (1870)

so now the presence of the Pope is anachronistic

It's just, you see the Pope in all his glory and wealth and then see poor Catholics on streets and in slums worldwide and just wonder at it all..

To promote a destructive and shaming religion, keep the poor in bondage and educate them not to ask questions.
It's a shame that anti-Catholic bigotry is still alive and kicking, so how exactly is your statement in any way a reflection of your supposed "Embracing the teachings of Christ"?
.
And, just for the record, I ain't a Catholic, but I detest the rather nasty labeling you've used for an entire denomination that's been around for almost 2000 years. Are you going after Judaism next? How about Islam? Hinduism?

The Pope is the successor of Saint Peter. When there is a dispute about a Dogma, the Catholic Church believes the Pope will be guided by the Holy Spirit in defining a Dogma from the chair of Saint Peter. Most Popes never define a Dogma Ex Cathedra, hence, most Popes never exercise Papal infallibility.

One only has to take a look at how Jesus responded to the religious pharisees of the day to tell you how He would have responded to the Pope.

There are some great books around on the role of the Roman Church and its toxic influence since the 1st century, Id be interested to know if you've ever read such literature.

The popes actually own very little personally, especially Pope Francis, plus the Catholic church spends enormous amounts of money and effort to help the poor, such as with Catholic Relief Services internationally and Catholic Charities here in the States.
Even though I'm not longer Catholic, I used to do be on the Christian Service Commission for quite a few years. I still volunteer at my wife's Catholic church, and they do a lotta good here locally, let me tall ya.

So, how much do you actually do in this vein, JT? I'm not trying to be snarky, but the minute one starts throwing stones at others, be prepared to maybe see a few coming back right at ya. It's like the saying goes, when you point your fingers at someone else, note that three of your other fingers are pointing right back at ya.
