Back in the 90s, I used to write a column for a rock magazine under the name "Little Miss Orbit". My username is just a shortened version of it.

Remembering The Jetsons, I have a suggestion if you ever need a new avatar....

My title should give you a hint as to how many I go by.
Mostly, I just hate common names, there's many original people with many thousands of variations of personalities, but MOST of us share names with people who are alive today or long since dead or are based on some character in a book or show/movie.

The name I'm using now is actually the youngest of the names I go by. There's no meaning behind it nor is it based on anything, I made it up from nothing and kept it like I did my many other names.

To name a few others that I go by: Gyrannon, Adromaedis, Daemonosis, and Qaireth. Also, OP, if you want a unique name, I can come up with names using the letters of your real name (Example: Dan: Daecarius Amraeiss Nyllavera - those too are one of a kind not used by anyone). Just something to think about if ever interested.

Yeah so I'm SURE this thread has been done before but I was just curious. I always wonder why people have the user name they do.

Mine is CDRaider because my name is Christina D and my schools mascot are the Raiders (we used to have this ugly red headed viking as our mascot but now we are wolves.. sucky mascot huh)

So what about yours?

Sounds like "take care".

Euronymous

Okay, I had a username change about a few weeks ago, changed from Error to Euronymous, so I'm going to make another post on this thread....

Anyhoo, where I got my current username, Euronymous, is from a deceased member of the Norwegian black metal band called Mayhem.

Aha....you were the Tracy Ullman version of Bart Simpson!
Now I know you.

Mine is obviously via Douglas Adams (HHGTTG), and I was around to listen to and record the original series on the radio. It would have just been Mostly Harmless but some cad beat me to it! Where are you? Come out and fight me for it! :D :D :D

Don't Panic has often been in my mind ....

I remember listening to the radio series back in the 70s.

My name is Jessica and my user name is a result of me being lazy.
Lazy is good.

Shame he died when he did, as I'm sure he had a lot more to give. Same with John Peel - used to listen to him a lot - he probably got me into much of the music I like now. Similarly with Les Dawson - I actually came across him in the street once and was just so shocked I couldn't really say anything to him, about how much I loved his work and all the pleasure he undoubtedly gave to many. But he probably knew that, and he did smile though. :D So many taken away too early.

I feel like people are always attackin me for saying something that to me is obvious - though sometimes it isn't pretty. And I'm not talking about direct insults, I have no reason to do so - but I'm sick of them tryin to stop me from speaking. Both in real life and the internet. Like I've been banned multiple times from sites for no reason or for a fake reason. So I damn the shushers from my name to begin with. Makes me feel like we've solved that issue. I guess I'm just not fit to the open society.

But we can all be wrong occasionally (not me of course), such that we should allow for this and be humble (very very occasionally). :D

My name is borrowed from the title of one of my favorite books called "The Technological Society" by Jacques Ellul. I hope everyone has the chance to read it someday. Take care.

My name is combination of my real first name + jester (No relation to @Jesster , but I am also lazy )

jester came from Danny Kay playing the Court Jester uttering the phrase, the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true! When joining here I hoped that RF would be such a vessel.

My new name is an allusion to my impish nature and the fact that usually any mud (or other stuff) thrown my way will just slide off the turtle's back - I try not to keep grudges also. So carry on as normal. :D

I was hoping that you volunteered to become soup.

Mine is "metis" because I am a Me'tis-- part European (mostly French) and part Amerindian (Pawnee, Canadian Cree, and unknown) with three of my four grandparents (the 4th was Swedish).
