The man, the myth, the legend Mr Jack Thompson has popped his head up once again to write for the Washington Post.
The connection between school massacres and violent video games
Now I don't know much about the Post or its reputation. To be fair, there is another article on the same website criticizing Thompson's piece, so I dunno. Maybe it's just random blogging.
But could this be the start of round 2? Or just a random opinion piece made possible by Trump blaming video games?

Do we have to keep repeating this cycle? Is there a legitimate conversation to have with the anti side?
Will Jack be just as hilariously entertaining if he does return to the fight?

Time will tell I guess.

Any real conversation must address something in between the 2
extremes of "blaming video games" & "not blaming video games".
It should be about possible influence of video games upon violence.

Psychology seems to suggest that exposure to violence in any form can cause some young children to be more at risk for violent activities. However, parenting style and support as well as mental disorders seem to play a Much larger part in these events.

I'm pretty neutral about the guns, but if you aren't going to blame the guns then why blame the video games?

I guess as a non American, the phenomenon baffles me to this very day. I mean I do vaguely remember when Thompson was in his heyday and not barred for conduct unbecoming, he was interviewed by our News Stations every once in a while. And it always seemed more to laugh at him than help him in his crusade.

Surely the discussion, especially within the powers that be, have to move onto actually addressing concerns of violence. What part the media can potentially play, mental health etc. It's like ever since the most recent tragic mass shooting, the cycle has literally hit repeat and the 90s moral panic has returned with a vengeance.
The most progress I have seen is a very heated gun control debate. I mean I have no horse in that race, y'all can figure that out for yourselves.
But for such a big world power, America just seems to be stuck in a time loop. Again that's just an outsiders perspective, for what that's worth.

It is.

Maybe instead of playing GTA 5, I'll just watch an old classic movie, "Reservoir Dogs" for a couple of hours.
Good to see you're avoiding temptation and doing your best not to give yourself an urge to go on a massive killing spree. Jack Thompson would be proud.

Wasn't this clown disbarred a long time ago? He should probably just save face and never talk about video games again at this point.

Yeah he was. I guess you just can't keep a good critic down. Or perhaps he thought it was safe to bring attention to himself again?
Oh Jack.
I can practically taste the memes, if he returns that is.

That's just To well articulated and clear headed. Personally I find it totally contrary to the spirit of the site.

I wouldn't say violent video games or any other one factor is to blame, a possible influence? Yes. What is the thinking of someone who decides to indiscriminately murder anyone especially people who have done nothing to them at any time? I'd say it's pretty obvious these people have some kind of disconnect from the reality of what they are doing or just a complete lack of respect for human life or the consequences of their actions. The contributing factors in this disconnect seems to me the most important things to look at and it just might be that the long hard look in the mirror by society as a whole is not one it is ready to take, it seems it is easier to grandstand, politicize, and demonize than to take that look.
