Hello, all.

I am a huge fan of the translation and commentary works by Bhikkhu Bodhi in regards to the Pali canon. I cannot recommend enough his translations of the Majjhima Nikaya and the Samyutta Nikaya. I see he published within the last year or two a translation of the Suttanipata. Anyone reading this post have any experience with this text? As I said, I am a fan of Bhikkhu Bodhi's work. Not only do I find his translations easy to understand AND technically informative, (not an easy feat to combine those two elements) Bhikkhu Bodhi does an excellent job of finding and providing commentary and insights that illuminate the underlying ideas of the suttas. I have every reason to believe that the Suttanipata will continue his high standards.

I read the Pali but not familar with commentaries. Suttacentral, their discussion forums at the bottom link, there are some monks etc who are familar with the Pali Canon. We're going over the Minjjhima Nikayas now in sunday evening talks.

Sorry. I think we talked once before about learning Pali. When I first read your response I thought you went ahead and took the plunge!

I am familiar with some of the individual works included in the Suttanipata, such as the Loving-Kindness Sutta. Apparently a number of the suttas in this collection are in verse form. I have the translations Wisdom Publications did on the first four sutta volumes. They are top-notch. I hope to add this one to my set.

I quite enjoy Bikkhu Bodhi, even as a Mahayanist. He has a certain style about him that is challenging in a useful way, and he encourages all Buddhists to be actively engaged in living by the teachings.
