I listen to music on YouTube quite often now and I have noticed something very annoying. No matter how often I listen to a song on a video uploaded by some random person and not Vevo, Trap Records etc, it won't show on the bar at the right. The videos that show 99% of the time are the official ones, even though YouTube knows I prefer the ones uploaded by random users, which have lyrics with them etc.

Is YT just trying to push these people random users off or what?

Vevo is going to be favored because of money and because Google's parent company partially owns it.

I doubt it as long as they’re continuing to attract users to the site.

The lists of similar videos will be based on a variety of things and while your viewing history will be one of them, there’s no real link between the different “random users” so if you watch a bunch of videos from user A, you might get offered more videos from user A but not necessarily any from user B even if they have similar content. Being offered lots of videos from major sources could just be based on their overall popularity or that they’re better at apply titles and tags to play the system though there could well be bias from sponsorship or commercial links too.

I can only sympathise that this free service doesn’t work entirely as you’d prefer.

It's just that it never used to work this way. It would usually display all the other videos I have watched recently [on the side bar], be they officiel or not and recommended ones among them would be a seemingly random mix. And it used to be that videos from user A and user B would both crop up if they had similar content, but I dunno maybe I listened to too much nightcore and since there's no Vevo Nightcore I never had that Vevo problem.

Ditto. I've not really noticed this feature on EweToob either. Perhaps it is more content related?
Then again, I normally just type whatever I'm looking for in the search bar and only occasionally look at their suggested thingies.

Sometimes I search for things and watch videos I wouldn't ever look up just to see what is recommended later, it can be entertaining what they think you might be interested in...kind of like when you post something here and you know someone will automatically take the opposite view just because so one can have fun with that as well.
