Predestination?

In my early days of being a narrow-minded Biblist I surmised that the paths were predetermined but man had a choice. After years of Don Quixote like attempts at trying to splain otherwise, I have come to see that some people just ain't gunna understand faith. It's like they're unequiped to process it.

What say you?

Paul said not all men have faith.

What's hard about faith? Faith is having a conviction in something that's unknown.

Does this mean having a conviction that paths are predetermined and man also has a choice but having no knowledge of the mechanics of how that works?

It's perfectly understandable to me. It opens the door to so much understanding. You just have to eat the red pill, Neo.

Sure, you have to, lacking any knowledge of your own, trust a teacher/mentor will correctly guide you to understanding.

If you already assume yourself to possess this knowledge, you're not even going to be looking for a teacher.

So if you're dealing with people who already "know" all about a subject they're not going to have any faith in your ability to teach them.

I kind of thought this is why Jesus said you have to come like a child. Accepting of your ignorance.

You can't fill a cup that's already filled.

Yeah I got that same speech at the beginning of my martial arts training.

I'm working on the hunch that they might be incapable. Or just obstinately ignorant (without prejudice on my part, of course).

Faith is easy and practiced by all predestination is not, why predestination for the individual came to be is beyond me.

Definition of faith: the human capacity for credulity that enables one to make the quantum leap from the barely believable to the totally bloody ridiculous...yep - I guess you're right - some of us just don't have it. Thank God!

There's 2 Roads: One leads to Life.

One leads to Death.

If you want to choose the road that leads to life: No one can force you to choose otherwise.

Our Destiny is in the palm of our own hands !

I don't know... if God's prophet Moses said, "Before you is life or death, choose life". Sounds like a choice to me.

they did not have problem of materialism then - all those people were theist.

Must be a different Bible... it seems to me that materialism has always been here -- just the names have changed to protect the innocent.

But what does that have to do with the OP?

Good point.

Most all humans, in all parts of the world down through history, have worshipped some deity or another. Atheism is a relatively new school of thought, induced by the scientific minds of recent centuries to assume that man is too smart to believe in what he cannot see. Science has made a god out of human intelligence.
Boy are they in for a surprise when they finally realize that they aren't as smart as they thought they were!

The Gospel message that Paul and the apostles preached to all people everywhere they went was to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and they would be saved. I don't think the Reformed/Calvinistic definition of predestination and the position that God has predestined who is regenerated before they can have faith and be saved goes along with the teaching of the scriptures because this makes salvation based on predestination, instead of faith. I believe that in Romans and elsewhere in the scriptures it is shown that the reason some people don't have faith is because they refuse to acknowledge God, refuse to give thanks to God, and refuse to give up their sins and obey God. Repeatedly doing this and ignoring one's God-given conscience results in a seared conscience and hardened heart toward the gospel and God.

I haven't ruled out reincarnation
somethings I do.... I do very well.....as if my hands already know how

but I don't recall a previous life

so I say.....we are here to learn all that we can
then present ourselves to God and heaven
(see first line of Job)

Christ is predestined, not individuals. Ephesians 1:11 "In him we were also chosen..." The person who abides in the vine is part of the vine like a leaf, but the vine does not need them to exist. It is predestined, but they are not. Ephesians 1:5 "...he predestined us for adoption through sonship..." same thing here. Similarly John 15:5 "I am the vine. You are the branches..."
