Overpopulation?

My sisters are very smart... one says there is plenty of land for farming and another says China's population is going into a downward spiral. Africa is spreading population.

I have also heard a very smart man saying its the number one problem.

What do you think? I particularly want to know what evidence you have for your side. Thank you for participating.

There is loads more room for everyone; the problem isn't the amount, it is the style of living...
  • We can not sustain a none vegan planet.
  • We can not sustain one that extracts the earth from beneath our feet, as eventually things collapse.
  • We need to exchange hemp for oil, paper, wood, housing, plastic, etc.
  • We need to have completely renewable energy.
  • We can not sustain corporate economic growth.
Like if people were all vegan, and planted more fruit trees; instead of chopping rain-forests down for farms, the sea levels would be falling.

In my opinion. :innocent:

It's a deep subject people only see the surface of.

It's not as much populace as it is reckless populace. Missing mothers or fathers or both tend to produce a more carnal child that is missing the love and nurturing investment to pass on to the child. When good morals and knowledge are missing, they are much easier recruited into narcissistic groups that see themselves as the only life on Earth.

Your sisters are both right. People have needs that only the Earth provides. And we are thankful that at this point, it provides for so many. But there comes a tipping point that needs can become greater than provision. And provision could suddenly decrease by "acts of God" on a global scale, something even movies portray.

The other sister is correct also. China has adopted a one child policy, and many children in China are being adopted. My doctor just adopted a Chinese female baby, flew to China to get her.

Africa begs for the world to feed their children (who have no able providers), and many jump to the task.

In the end, population is becoming more increasing by reckless males (and females) who see the actions of intercourse a self centered pleasure over the planning and responsibility of the consequences. Which, many times, produce the same at a greater rate than those who family plan.

It is only logical (and inescapable) that there is a limit to the sustainable population, and that our ever increasing material demands and population levels are not helping in keeping away from that limit.

One should also note that the population levels have raised something fierce in recent decades. Frankly, it shows in the quality of life as well.

I honestly wonder why so many people have such a hard time accepting it.

Whenever anyone says overpopulation is a problem I suggest that they kill their families and then themselves to help lessen the problem.
The evidence:
One less family to feed, but for some reason they never seem to include themselves or their families as part of what they see as a problem.
despicable!
Really? You first.

God has already handed us a less violent option. We just have to be willing to do the right thing.

While I fully sympathize for doing a vegan diet (for health reasons), you will always be able to farm more land if some of it is pasture - a lot of land is unsuitable to grow crops, but perfect grazing land for animals. As far as harvesting from the earth, we will shift from an acquisition mindset to a recycle mindset - some of this is already happening. In my state, for example, recycling is mandatory for all electronics and coded items.

It aint no big deal it dies off after itiwastes its enviroment.

An algal bloom is a rapid increase or accumulation in the population of algae in freshwater or marine water systems, and is recognized by the discoloration in the water from their pigments.

Yeah wasn't meaning crops, was meaning literally just allow everywhere to be covered in fruit trees, and let animals graze on left over waste naturally. ;)

That's not a bad idea, the problem is our farm land ultimately is our living land. :D We aren't having a land crisis anytime soon in the USA (still half of the USA is uninhabited, really). But, it does make sense to grow as many self-renewing crops as possible.

Well, you can look up Chinese population stats for yourself. The rate of growth has dropped enormously, but the population is still growing by millions per year.

But the real problem isn't just the sheer numbers. It's the expectations of those billions of people. As long as most people are satisfied just having enough to eat the human population could keep growing for a long time. But most people aren't satisfied with that and more and more people feel as entitled to a higher standard of living as first world people have come to feel entitled to.

A nice idea, but not one that science supports.
This is a bit long a lecture, but it is very high quality.

Everyone should do themselves a favor and watch this!

The way technology is going, if we all became conscious about our energy usage and gave up the consumer culture that revolves around acquiring material possessions (and increasingly an emphasis on short-lived junk that is soon replaced with a newer model), and stopped wasting so much food, we could probably all have more by having less.

Yes, some think so, depopulation methods are widely implemented.

That is not correct. Many have limited their families. If you disagree, present statistics.
