Did Paul Corrupt Christianity?

Sleeppy

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
Not sure how he was the first..

If you're able to see without bias, you know Jesus corrupted some of his own teachings.

I think he was trying to make a religion that came out of Judaism palatable to the gentile cultures he came in contact with. Corrupting the message? Not intentionally. IMHO

People forget that the Apostle Paul was also the Pharisee Saul of Tarsus who studied under the teacher Gamaliel. Paul was a scholar, a Pharisee, and a devout Jew whose writings brought the events surrounding Jesus into an Old Testament context that would have been readily understood by the Jews of his day, but is difficult for us due to that lack of context and difficulties imposed by translation and culture. Michael Heiser's "Unseen Realm" addresses many of the cultural, contextual and translational difficulties we experience. And, IMO, we get a much richer understanding of Christianity from Paul's writings.

I don’t believe so. But it seems his teachings have been misused to corrupt Christianity.

Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you; as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Cover Story: Jesus vs. Paul

Jesus vs. Paul
Many biblical scholars have noted that Jesus preached almost exclusively about the kingdom of heaven, while Paul highlighted justification by faith—and not vice versa. What gives?

I don't think he corrupted Christianity. Not to say people can't as he mentioned in Galatians. Justification by faith gets a person into the Kingdom of God so I don't think it is an either/or situation but rather they are connected.

Paul did talk about the Kingdom of God (which is the same as the Kingdom of Heaven) so I'm not sure there is a difference.

Paul did not so much corrupt, as mould the early churches he founded.
Rome did far more to formulate the dogma that was to dominate Christianity
Right up to the present day.

Calvin did more to formulate the dogma of the protestant faiths, than Paul or Rome.

Yes, he turned Christianity into a Hellenist Roman Religion.

I actually see Peter doing that. Especially if you read the Incident at Antioch. Paul challenged Peter and claimed him to blame for the "false gospel" (Galatians 1). In the (canon) gospels, the authors write of Peters constant misunderstandings and dogmatism.

Paul was hated by the Jews, and especially the Jews who had accepted Jesus as long as their fathers messages were followed as well. Paul gave the OT credit it deserved, which wasn't enough.

Marcion and Valentinus both saw the capture of the church of Jerusalem by the church of Rome, and eventually Rome won out.

The Council at Jerusalem was the beginning of putting the othodox Priests (Pharisee's) back in control, after Jesus took it from them:

The purpose of the meeting, according to Acts, was to resolve a disagreement in Antioch, which had wider implications than just circumcision, since circumcision is the "everlasting" sign of the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 17:9–14). Some of the Pharisees who had become believers insisted that it was "needful to circumcise them, and to command [them] to keep the law of Moses" (KJV).[5]

Paul addressed Peter in Acts, and says in Galatians 2:

11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. (the Jewish priests, Pharisee's)

13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

If anything came to light between the conflict of Paul and Peter, I feel the Roman church under Constantine purged the results during the years of ethnic cleansing and destruction of non canon information (books).

Paul sided with spirit, while Peter sided with flesh.

Paul was a proto-Valentinian Gnostic, he uses different terms for the Kingdom.
