Franken Resigns

Live updates: Al Franken resigns - CNNPolitics

Meanwhile, a GOP candidate has been accused of pedophilia running in Alabama and a President whose own accusations make Franken look like a boy scout. What a time to be alive.

Key word is "accused". Politics notwithstanding, there sure seems to be a rash of these types of accusations in sports, entertainment, politics, news, etc. ,etc. The numbers are unprecedented. Do you think this is really that common or a new fail proof mode of character assassination.

I think Franken should not have resigned. He apologized and should be allowed to move on deserving a new chance. Who does not make mistakes that they are truly sorry for. It is part of the maturation process.

Sexual misconduct can range anywhere from just rude all the way to felonious and we do not need to take a 'burn 'em all at the stake' mentality. Good people make mistakes controlling passions and emotions. If they apologize sincerely and vow not to let it happen again they should be given another chance (like Franken).

Would you extend this to all who are in politics at the moment?

And, presumably, it trumps audio recordings of a confession too.

Nope. Locker talk and having a picture of you being sleazy are two different things. I'm not trying to exonerate Trump, I'm just saying he--or anybody--is not guilty just because you want him to be.

Each case is different, but I hold to the philosophy I stated in the Franken case.

Can we name names here? Besides the apologetic Franken, who else deserves a second chance because he apologized for bad behavior as a young man?

He was caught on tape bragging about grabbing women's crotches and kissing them without their permission (or "locker room talk" as you call it). Then 16 women came out and said he has grabbed their crotches and tried to kiss them without their permission. He sure sounds guilty to me.

Looks like the women kicked him out of the club. Franken and Bill Clinton can swap stories and maybe do some stumping for Hillary next election.

The Dems are trying to play the "high road" card by forcing out any of their own that gets accused. It's almost as stupid and unfair as the GOP accepting rapists, pedophiles, and retards into the legislature so long as they'll vote in lockstep.

Where are his accusers? Name one without Googling it.

What does that have to do with anything???? I can't name Franken's accusers. So he didn't do anything wrong? I don't get it.
While I am glad to hear people coming forward with these accusations I am deeply bothered at how quickly people are being attacked with nothing more than accusations. In the old days one was innocent until proven guilty in a court of law (or openly admits to their behavior).

Well in the case of Trump, he admitted to certain actions on tape and then 16 women came out and corroborated his story. If it had been 1 or 2 women, maybe I wouldn't put much stock in it. But at 16, you have to start getting serious about it, especially given what he said on that tape. I mean, come on.

When you read the claims there are only a few that are pretty unseemly. Did any of them report to police what had happened? Did police investigate? Etc....

A lot of the cases have passed the statute of limitations timeframe.

But Summer Zervos is currently pursuing a defamation lawsuit against him.

I think there's enough evidence to make the 16 claims credible. Trump buries himself with his own words.

Politicians tend to be competitive, socially dominant personalities. I suspect the high testosterone levels in these alpha males not only contribute to their political drive, but to their sexual drive as well -- an unfortunate side effect.

We have to evaluate both the evidence and type of offense. There are degrees of sleaziness.

Seriously?
