When do you Think The Great Deception Started?

In many religions there is an idea that corruption has deceived us all in someway; yet at what point do you see this occurring in your religious texts, and at what point within our history...

Plus in what way do you see us deceived by our perception of the reality around us, where the religions have warned about it specifically?

In other words can you clearly define from religious sources, what The Great Deception is or at least what you think it might be?

In my opinion. :innocent:

None of the religions I identify with have this teaching.

It is, however, recognized that the map is not the territory. "Deception" is not the word I would put to that phenomena. Humans are simply limited creatures, and are always going to have biases when experiencing the territory; it's an inevitable result of not being omniscient and omnipresent.

Yes and jung in a lot of ways was pretty accurate. I have asked "Satan is the great deceiver who is his greatest victim" I got a lot of various psychopaths as an answer, a few "Satan is a myth" comments by the "I don't believe southern baptist peanut gallery. So archetypes apparently are incredibly impossible to understand!!! For most folks. I also asked what value self deception was evolutionarily. My god strong vocal support it's really really good. Just because I placed in evolution. Apparently any statement framed evolution is a fantastic!!!!! I would say mother nature is a lovely Easter lilly and a voracious cobra lilly at the sametime. Flies know no better just that mother nature is an Easter lilly clearly understood!!

It began when the first religion was founded, and continues to spiral outward.

Hindu sources disagree on the starting date for the Kali Yuga, Wikipedia has this as this for the Kali Yuga

With regard to human relationships, Markandeya's discourse says:

  • Avarice and wrath will be common. Humans will openly display animosity towards each other. Ignorance of dharma will occur.
  • People will have thoughts of murder with no justification and will see nothing wrong in that.
  • Lust will be viewed as socially acceptable and sexual intercourse will be seen as the central requirement of life.
  • Sin will increase exponentially, while virtue will fade and cease to flourish.
  • People will take vows and break them soon after.
  • People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks and drugs.
  • Gurus will no longer be respected and their students will attempt to injure them. Their teachings will be insulted, and followers of Kama will wrest control of the mind from all human beings.
  • Brahmins will not be learned or honored, Kshatriyas will not be brave, Vaishyas will not be just in their dealings, and the caste system will be abolished.

The OP mentions "deceived by our perception of the reality". Nothing snake-like there.

The first sentence of the OP, "In many religions there is an idea that corruption has deceived us all in someway; "

In Genesis, man's corruption came via the serpent. The connection seemed obvious to me.

The second part sure, the idea the our perception itself is corrupted, I'm not sure that is specifically addressed by any religious ideology.

Basically, "you cannot trust your own eyes". This would seem a more scientific view than religious.

A biblical story that might contain the idea of trusting God instead of your own senses.

Do You Trust God Or Your Own Senses? - Christian Faith At Work

Well, obviously you have read the story. You know that Joshua and the Israelites agree to a peace treaty with the Gibeonites. They believed the evidence. While they did briefly question the Gibeonites on some of it, this was not enough to discern the truth. Instead, the Israelites locked themselves into peace with a people group that God wanted them to destroy.

The Great Deception didn't Start anywhere. It's always been with us.
A few billion years ago molecules started doing weird things. A few hundred thousand years ago those molecule's descendants developed the ability to be deceived. Among the results of that was religion.

Perhaps that's the Great Deception you are referring to.

In the last few centuries we have developed techniques to reduce the problem of deception and increase our ability to understand reality. The general term for that is Science. Science is slowly but surely, faster all the time, alleviating the inability of humans to see past the great deception of revealed religion. From technology to medicine, from representative government to human rights, Science is improving our ability to base our worldviews and behavior on evidence and reason instead of humans claiming to speak for God and the supernatural.

Yeah, well that's the Christian belief. As I'm not Christian, I didn't compose my post with that in mind.

G-d created us to be imperfect from the very start, so there is no corruption. We are just the way that G-d intended us to be.

Nor Hinduism.

What about the maha-lila?

Thus, to consciously experience the joy of seeing himself in innumerable forms, Brahman projects himself outwardly, as a reflection of Himself, to manifest worlds, beings and objects. He subjects them to varying degrees of knowledge, intelligence, ignorance and delusion, through which He perceives the field of His creation as a playground of innumerable realities.

This is the secret and purpose of God's creation. Brahman descends into our worlds, as limited beings, in order to experience in his limited state the state of knowing and becoming, which are inconceivable in an absolute state of oneness. He associates himself with his materiality (the primordial nature) and manifests all this as a part of his universal play (maha-lila).

Is this not a form of God's self deception?

You don't think that the actions of Adam and his wife were the beginning of man's woes?
In your estimations, what would have happened if Eve had've told the serpent to "go away"....or what if Adam had refused his wife's offer of the fruit? None of that was God's doing...their choices were their own. The adversary's choice began the whole episode. But like all stories, that have a beginning....they have a middle and an end.

If Eden was the beginning.....what part are we living in now? What have we got to look forward to in the future? What "end" will logically conclude this scenario?

G-d created us to be imperfect from the very start, so there is no corruption. We are just the way that G-d intended us to be.

If that is true, then what on earth was he trying to accomplish? What is the purpose of our existence? Is there anything in the future to look forward to?

What is the purpose of the promise in Genesis 3:15? What does that first prophesy mean in Judaism?

Ypu can find anything you want to in Hinduism. It's vast. I was speaking generally. Sorry about the confusion.
