Charles Manson

Even though there is no such thing as hell, if there were, do you think Charles is there?
And do you think he SHOULD go there?
There is no eternal hell, but the lower astral regions where Charles is probably gone can be pretty hellish. He is probably sharing that region with Nazis and serial killers and other dregs of dead humanity. He will probably spend a long time there (may feel like an eternity) until the Gods decide where he should be born next. His next life could even be on another planet which suits his temperament better.

You made my argument for me. The feedback is by experiencing the suffering you inflicted on others so that you understand the consequences on others of your actions.
Of course, that's only useful when it can change behaviours for the better. Suffering in hell ONLY FOR THE SAKE OF SUFFERING is utterly useless, and something only a god -- or frightened, vengeful, unforgiving humans -- could think up.

There is no eternal hell [not verifiable but probably true], but the lower anal regions of earthworms where Charles (or at least part of him) will almost certainly end up is not a very nice place. He will certainly share that destiny with Nazis and serial killers as well as saints and saviours and other dregs of humanity. He will, however, not spend too much time there before those bits of him turn into part of another life form - a cabbage or a blade of grass perhaps - and his death will have achieved the messianic role of every death - giving life to others.

Charles Manson was mentally ill.

Society can't tolerate the way he manifested that illness, so he was rightly locked away.

And his death is the end of the matter, at least in terms of him, and that's all that need be.

What moral point would be made by tormenting the deranged for all eternity? Hitler, for that matter, as everyone's favorite avatar of evil?

Or to put that another, revenge for outrage needs to be finite, and not mindless.

Why are skeptics and humanists arguing with apparent "righteous indignation" that hell shouldn't exist - as if it does?

I can disagree with the concept of something without believing that it exists. Geeks do it all the time with Star Trek.

My guess is that Mr. Manson has been in "Hell" for many many years already. I see no point in perpetuating his suffering beyond what he has already endured.

Oh yeah was just making sure. But regardless, what if the person never learns from their mistakes and continues to commit the crimes?
What if you gave me a more reasonable hypothetical? I don't see how that could happen with anyone if I were to grant the hypothetical scenario of infinite time in an afterlife.

In this thread hell exists ex hypothesi.

Should everyone then fall silent?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
But isn't it conjecture on your part to assume something you've never experienced does not exist?
One could say that's all it is.

Just conjecture of possibilities for which Hell in that type of context, impossible because there's no real basis to go by to even begin to think that it actually exists, other than within one's imagination as things stand.

No. There will probably be a review exposing the suffering he caused, an analysis of what went so wrong, an adjustment period, etc..

There is eventual salvation/liberation for all souls.
