Flat earth Conference

Just when you thought the American fringe couldn't possibly get more ludicrous, hundreds flock to a flat-Earth conference in North Carolina.
Why do people still think the Earth is flat?

What's become of the American system of education, that so much scientific illiteracy is so widespread?

Thoughts? Guffaws? Gnashing of teeth?

Well, how does it affect me that some are flatters?! My car hasn't fallen off anywhere even on long distances! :D:cool: My morning coffee still obeys gravity, which is about all I need.
Personally, I think it easy to prove otherwise. ;):)

What I get a kick out of is how incredibly huge Antarctica has to be.

Antarctica would also be dark most of the time, even at the height of its summer period, with very very short periods of light each day. That is just not so.

It would need to be. There has to be some sort of land mass there to keep all of the water from spilling over the edge.

This is why global warming is such a concern. The ice in Antarctica melts, sea levels drop severely because all of the water spills off into space, causing a global...er...um...mapal drought, resulting in the starvation of Earth's inhabitants.

I wonder if they have any openings for flat earth scientists. I would be excellent in that capacity.

I am tempted to equate flat earthers with biblical literalists, but I won't. They're all nice people. Some of my best friends...

This is just the extreme edge of the fantasies many believe in which extends to the political sphere as well.

Common sense and gut feeling leads them to believe flat earth? Trusting either is generally not a good idea outside of very small life in the woods scenarios.

No one likes the feeling of traveling in a "ball" going fast in middle of empty space? Bad luck, you're stuck here with the rest of us.
