A Very Disturbing Dream

e.r.m.

Church of Christ
The other night I had a very Vivid dream. In the dream, I was at a quasi-Church type of convention. Their message was "Show God's love to the needy". Although in one of their messages I heard them say regarding Jesus Christ that he was only one of many characters in The Bible, and that he should be viewed as such. The real focus should be to love "God" and so on and so forth. They were deemphasizing Jesus and making it more of a generic religion about loving God and serving the needy. Everyone was drunk with enthusiasm and there were many ushers there energetically engaged in keeping the structure of it all and the ambience of the convention (more than usual). It felt like a cult following. When I started to question one usher, she challenged me to get out of the way, and another usher was very avoidant and wouldn't tell me the name of their organizaton. He even jostled around when I tried to take a picture of his convention t-shirt, but he did it all with a smile on his face. Now ordinarily a dream would be just a dream, but being that this one was so vivid, I thought I'd ask on this forum if anybody knows of such an organization in real life. I'm thinking the Salvation Army is the closest match, but does anybody know anything closer? I think if such an organization were to really exist, it would be very very bad. Disguising the blotting out of Jesus behind a mask of positivity with many enthusiastic followers.

Thank you.

While I am quite adept at unraveling dream symbols, I have to say that I'm a bit perplexed by the symbolism in this particular dream. It is so heavily spiced in overt Christian theology that I would have to know a lot more about your conscious beliefs about Christianity. I am struck by one stand out piece though. The meeting is about "Show God's love to the needy" which is fairly obvious, when you asked a question of an usher (ie. you "needed" an answer and were therefore "needy") you got the cold shoulder. I'm not sure what that is saying, but it is interesting.

Did you write the dream down in more detail when you awoke or is this the first time you have put it into words? Also, how long ago was the dream?

Are you on any medication at the moment?
I've given up smoking and the patches make me have the most vivid dreams if I leave them on at night.
I've been purposely leaving them on because it's great fun.

I notice that sentiment all over the place, deemphasizing Jesus. It's the way things are progressing towards a One world religion. A way that Jews, Christians and Muslims and others can all fit under the same roof. Your dream just puts the world in a nutshell.

Lol, no, but I might have eaten something before sleeping.

Agreed. I thought this might be portraying a particular branch of those who do.

When I got the cold shoulder, it was because I was questioning their belief system, and that was taboo, like how dare you.

This was the first time I put it in words. I didn't put all the details here, only the most relevant. I wish now I would have written down what was written on that guy's T-shirt. It may have given me an idea as to who they were. My concious thought about Christianity is that God the Father sent his son Jesus to live among us, teach us, and be sacrificed to fulfill the Father's plan to open to the world the opportunity to be part of his kingdom. When one believes in Jesus and is baptized in his name John 3:5,16 they enter his kingdom. Blurring the lines on Christ is heresy.

I do find your conscious perception most interesting compared to the dream imagery. There is a lot of "meat" in this dream and I would advise you to write it out, in private (you do not have to write it down here on RF), with as much detail as possible. Resist the urge to "correct" the dream and just do is a verbosely as you can without altering the content.

This is one of those gems that could give you a lot of insight into your own beliefs as well as that of those around you. It could take a very long time to unravel in its entirety and only you can say what all the aspects mean. Thank you for sharing this unique dream.

Pro tips:
1. This dream is ultimately about how you and your beliefs interface with your community (of believers, I suppose) and how you feel about that community. Try to find connections in the real world in regards to how you trust those you know.
2. Pay attention to the tenor of the people in the dream and how they rub you in the dream and look outwards to see reflections in either yourself or your community. You might find some surprising connections.

Does anyone know of any group similar to this? Thank you.
I'm not so sure that is the best way to approach this but this is the 2nd time you have asked so it must be important to you. The dream is not exactly what it seems, so don't take it too literally in that regard.

And would you happen to be aware of any such group?

Unitarians have always put more emphasis on God rather than on Jesus. As have Jw's.
And as did Jesus himself.....
The more magical elements of Christianity have been losing their importance, leading to a more reasoned understanding of both God and Jesus's relationship to God.
Jesus power and message came from God.

As you saw in my earlier post, it's about both the Father and Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. But this dream was making it just about the Father and giving to the needy. They left Jesus in the dust. And that's wrong.

Nothing comes to mind, sorry. I'm not a Christian so I'm not up on that department.
Another interesting detail I remember about the dream, is that every last person was young and beautiful, except the preacher. I think that was to reflect the overall positivity of the place.

What do you think God has in mind for the two thirds of the world who are not practising Christians.

It is perfectly possible to have a relationship with God with out involving Jesus at all.

It is a mistake to think only people who follow a particular Christian dogma are loved and cherished by God. Or that he excludes them some way, either here or in the next existence.

Perhaps your dream is reminding you of this.
