If the consciousness is tied solely to a form of matter, do we assimilate the consciousness of a thing in processing it as a fuel source?

No more than we become a plant when we eat a salad. Digestion does a pretty good job of decomposing foods into basic units.

What if it's the other way around?

it has been suggested, so..............

Genesis 2:7
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed(spirited) into his nostrils the Spirit(breath) of life, and the man became a living being.

Nehemiah 9:20
You gave your good breath to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst.

John 6:63
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

If that's the case all foodstuff is conscious. Possibly everything. Even the dirt. And snow. The yellow snow must be so sad.

That being the case, I really don't see any kind of assimilation. In my view, consciousness just is. The material we perceive is nothing more than a projection of pure consciousness, no more real in the physical sense than an image displayed on a movie screen.

how does a thing that has no state of matter, project onto a reality that doesn't exist, or have awareness of anything?

i can understand that all things that project could be impermanent, or no thing permanent, but I can't comprehend of awareness of nothing. nothing would be nihilism of the self

Think of it as the (higher) Self asleep and dreaming. While the Self is fully aware that the dream is taking place on the substrate of Ultimate Reality, the self, while awake in his/her perceived reality, is not aware that s/he is dreaming.

You mean, is it pretty?

Almost exclusively, yes.

It projects onto a reality that exists.

It's rocket science.

so you're implying the All is lucid when it projects and the projection, the personality, believes it exists in reality and can be unaware of the Ultimate Reality?

In essence, yes. I would replace the word "All" with "Self," but that's only semantics because they are one and the same anyway.
