Where was God during the Las Vegas shooting?

BSM1

What? Me worry?
In what sense, in what cases - do you think to say that God creates evil? How would this differ from satan?
(since you aren't a Christian, I think our perspectives differ. Still, want to hear what you think.)

Follow me on this. God creates everything and everything to God carries the same weight. Man tips the scales on what God has created. "Good" and "evil" are man-made concepts and definitions, not Celestial. The shooting in Las Vegas is no more evil than the humanitarian sacrifices afterwards are good; that is, unless we decide so. The main thing about any happenstance in our lives is not if they are good or evil, but how we react to whatever occurs. Thus, when we understand and accept that every thing is of God, we tend to live a more peaceful and moral life. This IMHO, is the meaning of Isa. 45:7. Consequently, if God did not create evil, then who does? If you say Satan, then aren't you saying there is another Deity that is as at least as powerful as God?

Why?

Excuse me! I believe the words we use and their meanings are things humans devise. Not god.

Unfortunately we don't. We are often at the mercy of the 'whims" of our psychological and physiological make up.

Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.

Darn right! I just cannot imagine how I could enjoy my family, friends, the arts, travel, good food and wine without the occasional natural disaster and increasingly frequent mass shooting.

They all pass away and will be no more.

We are a greedy world and feel life is great while we get to enjoy family, friends, the arts, travel, good food and wine, all the while a great percentage of the world has not even clean drinking water.

It is these selfish thoughts that gives the imbalance in this world and attributes to all that is unfolding. Materialism is a world devouring fire.

No one should rest until all Humanity has the same opportunities.

Be well be happy always. Regards Tony

God was running away from the bullets. And He was hiding from them. And He was trying to help others. And He was responding in a police uniform. And He was also the guy doing the shooting.

Where was god?

He doesn't exist, of course, and a god concept that exists purely in the minds of its believers can't really do anything to affect our reality except continually insist with no compelling evidence.

He violently caused terror. That seems ample reason to consider him a terrorist.
That alone isn't enough to classify an act as terrorism. Socio-political motivations are one of the big defining traits of terrorism, and here we have no motivations at all. If using violence to create terror were it, then pretty much everyone who commits armed robbery would be a terrorist.
Just the cops that burnished the shooter, forcing him to kill himself because he was a coward.
It's just as likely he didn't plan of surviving, and went in knowing he would commit suicide, with the cops forcing nothing upon him.

Maybe, but he would have shot more people until he was forced to shoot himself. What forced him to shoot himself? Because the cops bumrushed his room! Why Is that so hard to understand?

In my view, he was clearly not insane. From everything I have read and watched the planning was too cold and calculated to be the result of a psychotic event. Though he may indeed have been suffering from some kind(s) of mental illness, he was, clearly, quite functional and well aware of what he was doing. He was, by all accounts, an educated man of means, living in comfortable retirement.

Personally, I would not rule out that he was a very bitter Hillary supporter and decided to even the score. Sadly, we may never know the real reasons.

Not able to make a comment either way on his sanity, but long term planning is entirely possible (even likely in some ways) for the 'insane' when talking about the focus of their delusions.

It's basically the rest of life they struggle to commit to or focus on.

God is not a Babysitter.
God isn't much of anything, apparently.

It's interesting to hear theists make excuses for why the effects of "God's will" are indidtingushable from God not existing at all.

"God isn't a babysitter"... which is why he did nothing.

"God won't interfere with free will"... which is why he did nothing.

When does your God actually do anything?

It's not much, but if he was legally insane, he would have tipped someone off with odd behavioral ticks. It is not likely that he would be cold as ice about it. I'm inclined to see him as perhaps being paranoid and acting out his fantasies, while remaining cool on the outside. "You don't want THEM to find out!" That would explain the need to arm himself enough to satisfy a small third world country.

But then something like Las Vegas or the Church shooting that just happened not too far from where I live here in Tennessee happens and then I ask, where was god? Was he just taking the day off? Does he not care? Or does he just not exist?
FWIW, in my entire life, I've never seen anything that I couldn't perfectly and immediately reconcile with the idea that no gods exist... and all without the mental gymnastics I often see from theists.

Why is it so hard to understand that because we know so very little about the shooter we can't say much at all? If the guy planned on killing himself, the cops forced nothing and their arrival was no more forceful than a clock announcing it's time to do something. They may have startled him, leading to a panic that caused him to shoot himself.
We do not know.

Except when it comes to making people go through med school, apparently.

Murderous psychopaths and serial killers often don't tip off anyone over their behaviors and mannerisms, and often seem likable, approachable, and not someone you think of as intending to murder you.

Yet you know he killed himself, not because, the cops showed up right?

We do not know.

Maybe he did. But here is our options.

1.) That he killed a set amount of people, decided ok thats good enough, then he killed himself. Regardless of what the cops were doing.

2.) He was stopped short of killing more people, because he knew the cops were on their way to apprehend him, forcing him to commit suicide.

It does not take a genius to pick the logical answer of a mass shooter.
