Castration

gottalovemoses

Im mad as Hell!
My brother has got an extreme view on pedophiles. He wants them castrated. What do you think of that? It sounds more like personal revenge, retribution than justice in my view. Not that I want to be in a position to defend pedophiles. I do think some of them suffer enough retribution in prison so I've heard.

Does he want to castrate all of them or just the ones who break the law?

I think castration doesn't help. There's been some studies to show it doesn't stop repeat offenses as much as we'd like it to:
Castration For Rapists: Pros and Cons
And as compulsory unnecessary surgery it's pretty medieval. I'd rather them do some serious psychiatric evaluation and get help that way.

all of them.
I think some countries have actually looked into this, haven't they?
I think its been done, but pedophilia is considered normal in many countries. So is beheading. I mean it just depends upon where you go and what time period.

That sounds more humanistic. Some would say idealistic but if we lose all our ideals we become as bad as them. (treating savages savagely)

Its a bit like serial rapists.....castrating them (chemically) was not shown to "fix" the problem. All sexually deviant crimes are a form of mental aberration. When they could not rape physically, they used other devices to accomplish their "acts". Since it originates in the mind, that is what needs the treatment. Physical castration is simply removing one 'weapon'.....unfortunately, there are many more.

Pedophilia is not "normal" behavior, and any person who finds themselves sexually aroused by small children should seek treatment. Unfortunately, the internet feeds these deviates and they are now more likely to enact their fantasies. No wonder parents need to keep an eye on their children at all times. :(

Good question. I really don't know. Every time I think of an alternative I dislike it for one reason or another. But I would have little issue with almost anything for a repeat offender.

Many would say that homosexuality is not normal behaviour. Should they seek treatment as well?

I do not accept that homosexuality is "normal" but at the same time, I don't see that a homosexual person should be ostracised because of a hormonal or mental issue that they cannot rectify. They are "people" first and their gender identity doesn't have to define who they become. It is clear to me that most homosexual people are just victims of their biology. The Bible does not condemn the person but it does not condone any illicit sexual activity. TBH, the Bible condemns all sexual acts that are enacted outside of scriptural marriage.....regardless of gender.

If a homosexual person accepts God's moral laws, then they must remain celibate. It would be no different than for pedophiles or even sex addicts. We may not be able to control what we are...but we can control what we do. If we are lovers of God before lovers of self, then he will give us the power to overcome wrong desires. Self-control is a fruit of God's spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) I have seen this power to overcome many times.

Majority of paedophiles are Christians, let's start with Pope Francis, the King of them all.

Wait...you want the Pope castrated due to the crimes of some Christians?
That might be the most ridiculous thing I've read today.

There seems something inherently sexist in castration.
Imagine the outcry if female rapists were subject to genital
assault as punishment for a crime, eg, a hysterectomy.

Your first statement also may not be true. Francis is 80. He might have been involved in the cover-ups, otherwise you have to prove something.
