Questions for Muslims

An unexpectedly hilarious answer. Yep, that sure clears things up. :)
It is not a matter of being formless or shapeless. Allah swt is not bound by any physical limits. That is main point that has to be stressed. Once you establish something in a particular shape or size, then you restrict it mentally to those physical limits.

If you think of a zebra, you would think of an animal that is white with black stripes etc. You would also know that this animal cannot swim under water, cannot lay eggs, cannot fly etc. Which means that this animal has certain physical limits.

Allah swt has no limits, so we cant really understand what shape He has since our thinking is not evolved enough to comprehend it.

In the end, Allah knows best.

I appreciate the explanation, I was wondering the interpretation of days which Judaism teaches as age. Is evolution vs creation an issue with a literal interpretation of Quran?
Islam is the same, days can mean age, and the Qur'an says:

"...A day with your Lord is equivalent to a thousand years in the way you count." (Qur'an, 22:47)

"He directs the whole affair from heaven to earth. Then it will again ascend to Him on a Day whose length is a thousand years by the way you measure." (Qur'an, 32:5)

"The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose length is fifty thousand years." (Qur'an, 70:4)

This man dispels ignorance in Islam.
On his 3 verses in his short monologue:

4:157 - Same belief as the early Christians including the family of Jesus pbuh
5:47 - Makes no mention of a book called the New Testament, judge by the Injeel which Christians do not have.
9:29 - Read the context from 9:28 which explains this refers to the Holy City of Mecca.

So, what we can glean from this is that Muslims have no idea what they are talking about. That you would offer up the site "Miracles of the Qur'an" is especially telling and shows a level of gullibility that is all too prevalent in the Islamic world. For the record, I got a hearty chuckle out of several of the "articles" on that site. The one about the miracle of 19 is especially ludicrous and giddy. Oh well, at lest some Muslims have a sense of humor even if Ayatollah Khomeini did not.

The funny thing here is that no one, and I mean no one, in the Christian world takes the idea of the supposed Injeel seriously. Muhammad talked about it from early on in his raving and yet, for the most part, early Christians had no idea what he was talking about because the Injeel was never a recognized historical work. In other words it's made up text supposedly given to Jesus in the same way the Qur'an was theoretically handed down to Muhammad.

Exit question: How are they supposed to judge by something they never had? I'm sensing the Muslim god is a tad bit disingenuous.

So I'm not trying to start a debate, I'm trying to understand a position different from my own. To all the Muslims here how would you defend the claim that Muhammad was a pedophile? Also, if Allah is merciful and loving, then why does he condone the killing of Christians and Jews in the Qu'ran? Why is it okay to spread your religion through conquest like Mohammed?

Not a Muslim here....

The "pedophile" allegation is based on a Hadith that suggested Aisha was say six or nine years of age on marrying the Prophet. One problem with the Hadith is that it was well over a hundred years old before being collected by Bukhari. Another problem is that there was no universal calendar in use in Arabia before the Caliphate of Umar which means no one knows for sure how old these people were. Another problem with the pedophile allegation is that the Prophet married Khadijih when she was supposedly forty years old not a likely age if you are captivated by very young women. Aisha was likely young I will agree she had already been promised earlier in marriage to a Meccan pagan who broke off the engagement when he learned she had become a Muslim.

As to "killing" Jews and Christians: The first six years of the Prophet's ministry was involved in pagans persecuting Muslims .. boycotting their products and some Muslims fleeing to Ethiopia for refuge in a Christian country. The Muslims were actually closer to the Jews and Christians in the beginning considering that they had chosen Jerusalem as their Qiblih before the Kaaba in Mecca and also favoring the Christian Byzantines over the Sassanids...

Read the first verses of Surih 30 "Ar Rum"

2. The Romans have been defeated.

3. In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious.

4. Within three to nine years. The decision of the matter, before and after (these events) is only with Allah, (before the defeat of Romans by the Persians, and after, i.e. the defeat of the Persians by the Romans). And on that Day, the believers (i.e. Muslims) will rejoice (at the victory given by Allah to the Romans against the Persians),

5. With the help of Allah, He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

According to this he turned his life around and reconciled with his father –

Wood has stated that he was an atheist[1] in his youth, during which he had run-ins with the law by breaking into homes and later going as far as attempting to take his father's life at the age of 18, claiming a belief that morality was merely societal rules that were beneath him. [6][7][8] After the attempt on his father's life, Wood was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (sociopathy) and was sentenced to ten years in prison for malicious wounding. While in prison, he was confronted with a fellow prisoner named Randy[8] who was a devout Christian. Wood often challenged Randy's Christian beliefs, initially claiming that Randy was only a Christian because he was born into a primarily Christian society, specifically the United States.[7] Wood began to read the Bible in order to respond to Randy's rebuttals but it eventually led Wood to convert to Christianity in 1996 himself, and to eventually reconcile with his father.[8]

After five years between jail and prison,[7] he was released in 2000 and went to college earning a degree in philosophy.[9][10][11] While in college, he was challenged to convert to Islam by his roommate, Nabeel Qureshi, an Ahmadiyya Muslim, and went about investigating the life of Mohammed using the earliest sources including Ibn Ishaq's epic the "Life of Muhammad" (the earliest biography of Muhammad); the hadith collections of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim (considered by Sunni Muslims to be the two most reliable or sahih collections of Muhammad's statements, actions, and example); and the History of the Prophets and Kings by Al-Tabari (one of Islam's greatest historians).[9] Concluding that the Quran and Mohammed's example did not simply describe violence in the past (as in the Christian Bible per his assertion), but rather commanded ongoing violence, he took up the mantle as a Christian apologist.[9] His roommate Nabeel eventually went on to become a Christian apologist as well.[1] Wood would later earn a Ph.D. in the philosophy of religion at Fordham University.[2]

Here some important dates for you :

-Islam revelation : 610
-Birth supposed of Aisha : 610
-Birth supposed to Aisha before Islam (so before 610) according to Abu Bakr's hadith (that all his children were born before Islam)
-Aisha was among the first who accept Islam : so she couldn't be a baby (if born in 610) but minium age of reasoning
-Abu Bakr (her father) accepted Islam in 610
-Mariage consumate : 623
-Asma (Aisha's sister) was 10 years older, born in 595 : Asmā' bint Abi Bakr - Wikipedia
(if Asma was born is 595 then Aisha was born in 605, in 623 (mariage) she was then 18)

Do the maths.
And there's many others hadiths concerning this.

And 2nd question you asked, I don't know what you're talking about.

It is not supposed to matter whether he is sane or not. His statements' merits or lack of same will have to stand on their own.

What would have been David Wood’s fate if he had faced a trial in a Sharia Court?

The problems I have about this testimony :

1 She said there's no "women's day in muslim countries" which is untrue.
I'm from maghreb and this day exist.

Something that I don't like is people generalizing (like her) for every other countries they don't even know well.

2 She talked more about a country and it's specific system which is known by many muslims for not really being muslim.

Exemples she gave : women's can't travel , can't work, can't drive, can't have a personnal account etc
This is specific to KSA and have nothing to do with Islam !

Also the "religious police" in KSA or Iran is something who didn't exist before (time of the Prophet) nowhere it stipulated we have to spy on each other because it's forbidden in Islam (only the advice is ok).

The so called ex-muslims most of time seems like they don't understand Islam or act like they don't.

The "pedophile" allegation is based on a Hadith that suggested Aisha was say six or nine years of age on marrying the Prophet. One problem with the Hadith is that it was well over a hundred years old before being collected by Bukhari.

Unfortunately it's the only (relatively) reliable source on the subject and it seems like most Muslims accept what the Hadith has to say on the subject. Or at least they accept the orthodox interpretation from religious scholars. I'm not sure about that though - it's just the impression I get.

Another problem is that there was no universal calendar in use in Arabia before the Caliphate of Umar which means no one knows for sure how old these people were.

A fair point but the big problem arises when Muslims claim that:
  1. Aisha was pre- or early pubescent and;
  2. Muhammad was a moral exemplar that Muslims should try to emulate.
  3. this justifies contemporary Muslims engaging in child marriages;

I was under the impression it was Aisha's father who annulled the marriage so he could marry her to Muhammad. Isn't that what Muslim sources claim?

As to "killing" Jews and Christians: The first six years of the Prophet's ministry was involved in pagans persecuting Muslims .. boycotting their products and some Muslims fleeing to Ethiopia for refuge in a Christian country.

You're only telling one side of the story here. The other side that we can only hear about from Muslim sources is that the Meccans put up with Muhammad slandering their beliefs and their gods (and by extension their ancestors who worshipped those gods) for something like close to a decade. They sounded awfully patient if you ask me - especially if you compare them to how some Muslims act these days. If you mock a sacred figure in Islam you're taking your life in your hands. If you draw a cartoon you'll be sure to find Muslims protesting the cartoon. Even if Muhammad's name is drenched in your blood by zealots as 'revenge' later on, it'll still be the cartoon they focus on rather than your murder in the name of Islam.

I disagree that boycotting something is persecution. Nobody is obligated to buy someone's goods.

Read the context to understand why NO Christian of the time raised the objections you just did:

46: And in their footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Law that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law that had come before him: a guidance and an admonition to those who fear Allah. <<<Law and Commandments to be followed, Matthew 5:17-19

47: Let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) those who rebel. <<<Judge what was revealed by Allah swt in the Gospel, (Singular) not later Gospels from Greek philosophers!

48: And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. <<< Use the Qur'an as guidance, invite them to the truth.

The Ebionites and other groups of Christians did not walk around with the NT as found in the Codex Sinaiticus or Vaticanus. This is evident if you read letters from early Church fathers, who were trying to convince Christians, the death and resurrection of Jesus pbuh together with his divinity is written in the Gospel, and they reply saying, no sorry it really says nothing of the sort in OUR Injeel, (Gospel).

Yes this is likely true of some communities in Muslim Countries that are lacking in basic education. Tribal regions of Pakistan/Afghanistan, and parts of Africa. The same can be said of non Muslim communities, and indeed some HIGHLY educated and advanced Countries, One being a Super Power that acts as the World's Policeman no less:

American men are taking advantage of legal loopholes to marry children as young as 12
