Ahhhhhh...the Catholic Church. haha You know, I don't miss it at all anymore. I used to, but now...it's like a distant memory. It's really stupid ideology, to tell you honestly. It really doesn't have to do with sexual orientation as they didn't know anything about orientations before the Kindsy Studies (and related ones) that said sexuality is on a sliding scale from heterosexual on one side and homosexual on the other. It was more sexual acts. So, women would get arrested for sleeping with anyone outside of marriage. People get arrested in general for having any type of sex and intimacy outside of male/female intercourse.
The ideas were one that we were spread diseases (during the AIDS epidemic). Another reason somewhere in the 50s or 60s, they thought we had such a high limbido that we would go around abusing children. Sadly, that lasted even to the 90s with the boy scout thing and then manifested again with the priest molestation thing.
But, yeah, in history class just learning about the reasons for the two World Wars and events just make me upset and thinking at the same time how our world is just stupid in decision making in regards to land ownership and reasons for war.
But, yeah, it's a Catholic thing that influenced everyone else's views in the abrahamic view in the states. Ralph Wildo Emerson, a poet and gay man with other people helped get over that "males act this way and women act that way" through transcendentalism. He wrote and believed spirituality outside of rituals and dogma. That's when there was a bomb in people being more sexually open. Today, the PRIDE marches (and probably feminist movements and other sex/gender movements) are pretty light. All after World War 2.
Well, I started a journal here and I shed some light on this. I'm at a crossroads with it all, and honestly Carlita, I don't think my mind ever came back to faith...only my heart did. (emotions, in other words) If you care to read my journal, I share some of it in there.I notice you're leaning back into atheism. What happened to christianity? You were going strong with that.

I don't think I believe that in that type of ''spiritual'' after life ...like talking to my grandmother, and she hears me. I don't begrudge people who believe this, but I think...how can my grandmother hear me? Wouldn't that make her on par with a deity?@Deidre I don't know if this is your forte, but another thing that helped me was talking to my grandmothers. I have an altar and I talk with my family from time to time, light a candle, and keep them in mind. I meant to visit my grandmother were she rests sometimes this month of not next since my father is sick. But, if you believe in family in spirit, they can probably give you some direction. I remember way way way back when I used to pray to god, I'd write my prayers. I figured that it was stupid to talk to the air but when I write my prayers, then they sort of write themselves. If you brainstorm write, maybe god may "talk" back.
Anyway....

I find it so weird because I felt as if I was pushing atheism on you and then after about 3+ years as a staunch atheist I go straight back to religion. I felt very awkward coming out as a theist and I feel even more uncomfortable talking about it still. I was never that bugged as an atheist that much and felt a lot of humiliation when I used to be a Muslim even.
It is nerve wracking to me still that I even profess having religious faith in my life. I realized I had more emotional fortitude as an atheist than I did as a theist which in my mind I know for a fact should be the opposite. Just bugs me that I can make such a dramatic change in my opinions like this. I honestly wish I was an atheist still because at least I could ignore everything in religion and not be tossed in the same bucket of insanity.
I also admit I have severe anxiety issues that only go away when I have less to worry about. I would not even call my belief in a god theistic more so apatheistic or ignostic. I just stopped caring about either side anymore and can agree or disagree with either group now
Well.... it depends on who you ask and what religion. In African religions, they speak to ancestors to talk to god. Like saints, they are our first intermediary when getting to know god. Spiritualist use different terminology, like "intelligent design" but after reading the history of it, it's just god depersonified. We say Spirit as a collective term for all spirits who are created by (bites her tongue) or breathed to live by "god."
I don't know what the definition of a deity is, to tell you honestly. I looked it up and the closest non religious definition is an adjective to describe a god.
But yeah, I personally feel your grandmother can hear you. I'm not an evangelist, so I won't say you have to believe me.
I remember our talks about Islam. Gosh, seems like a lifetime ago, but it wasn't that long ago. I think that maybe we just have to not fight it so hard, and follow our mind...our heart. It is interesting that you are a believer, now. And I'm happy for you, Sha.
An expression of humanity. The soul being considered gender less makes for some interesting interpretations of sex in humans in general. For example in every human is feminity and masculinity. Some branches even stress one or the other in its adherents. In some Shakta sects, men must embrace inner feminity in order to worship.
To be married and not be sexually satisfied is a sin, well that's too strong a word. But it's considered a marriage in need of help either way. Though premarital sex is still frowned upon. Varying degrees of acceptance of gay marriage as well. I accept it, some conservatives don't. But most agree people should live their lives in peace.
In other words it's up to personal interpretation.

Why are you replying to a post that has nothing to do with the Bible or Christanity?I can't find any other interpretation about Jesus' recorded words at Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9 that fornication (porneia), pre-marital sex is more than just frowned upon. Of course, people should live their lives in peace because as Hebrews 13:4 says it is God who is the One who will judge fornicators and adulterers.
In the Bible I find the soul is the person himself. Adam 'became a living soul' according to Genesis 2:7.
In other words, Adam did Not have a soul. Adam did Not possess a soul. Adam was a soul.
Adam went from non-life, to life, and returned back to non-life according to Genesis 3:19.
That is why Ezekiel 18:4,20 can say the soul that sins dies. ( No immortal soul in Scripture )
And as gospel writer Luke wrote at Acts of the Apostles 3:23 the soul can be destroyed.
Bible spam and preaching.I find in Scripture that our late grandmothers do Not hear us.
Sure ' death ' is the price tag sin pays, and the dead are acquitted or freed of their sins as per Romans 6:7, 23.
Since both Jesus and the old Hebrew Scriptures teach unconscious sleep in death, then as we are Not aware of the passing of time while asleep, so the dead are also Not aware of anything according to John 11:11-14; Psalms 115:17; Psalms 146:4; Ecclesiastes 9:5.
So, our late grandmothers need to be awakened from death' deep sleep as Daniel looked forward at Daniel 12:2,13.
Since the resurrected Jesus has the keys to unlock death and the grave for us according to Revelation 1:18, then we have the hope of seeing our resurrected loved ones again.
Yeah not Christian, so the Bible doesn't really apply to me. There are other religions that exist ya know.I can't find any other interpretation about Jesus' recorded words at Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9 that fornication (porneia), pre-marital sex is more than just frowned upon. Well maybe in revisionist history. Tower of Babylon is not the birth place of my religion. Kind of predates it.Yes, I know other religions exist, and when we trace mankind's religious family tree back to its base or its roots we go way back to ancient Babylon at the time of the tower of Babel. ( Even people who follow astrology trace roots back to ancient Babylon ). As the people left ancient Babylon they took with them their old religious-myth practices and ideas and spread them world wide into a greater religious Babylon or Babylon the Great. Just because the Bible does Not really apply to them ( they don't use Bible teachings ) does Not make the Bible as being wrong.
